Is there a way (other than to uninstall Thaumcraft) to disable the random lightning strikes that's generated from too much flux? On a clear day, lightning struck a tree and almost set the entire forest I was in ablaze.

Not that I'm aware. A couple of forest fires started near my base because of them, but oddly enough neither spread: Instead, many hours later (as I was trying to convert a massive pile of leaf blocks to saplings by pillaring up on them and digging down) I spotted the fires and went to put them out.
They hadn't spread very far over all the time they must've been there (hadn't even consumed a full tree) but had instead gone into "infinite fire" mode.
