In the ground. That's a semi smartass answer.
It's like lapis in its distribution.

I kind of feel like making it surround gold veins like it does in RL. Quartz is known for harboring a lot of metal nuggets inside, mostly copper, gold, and silver.
It's kind of silly that quartz certus or otherwise is so uncommon (no rare though).
