Anyone know of a good tutorial on how to build, power and hydrate it? The one I built is acting retarded and although it uses a ton of water, it ends up filling the spaces with water in it with dirt. So now, all it's constantly doing if tilling the soil when it dries out. There are spots where there are no crops planted.

I would suggest Direwolf20's Forestry 2.0 Spotlight. It goes in depth on how the multi-farm works but I haven't seen it in a while so I'm not sure how relevant it is to your problem.

EDIT: Link to video

Are you by any chance using a 'managed' wheat farm section together with some other managed farm sections, such as an arboretum section?

I'll take a look at Direwolf20's video when I can.

Yes, Managed Wheat/Potato/Carrot/Mushroom Farms.

In the final 1.4.7 versions there is a bug with the multifarm when you combine a farm type that involves irrigation holes together with a farm type without irrigation holes on a 'managed' farm. The farm will end up confused about whether or not it needs irrigation holes and where to put them, resulting in it placing and filling and emptying and re-digging them chaotically. It especially likes to get stuck in a state where it constantly spends 1 water bucket per action to fill in a hole, over and over, for long periods of time. This is what people see when they report that even multiple aqueous accumulators are enough to keep up with the farm's water drain; it's not by design, it's a bug.

In your case, the mushroom farm is the section without irrigation requirements that's messing up your farm. Considering how little use mushrooms actually have, I highly recommend you ditch it in favor of only vegetable and wheat farm sections, which all require irrigation and as such should not trigger the bug. But if you want to be extra secure, make it a manual farm instead. You'll even be able to gain a few more blocks of farmland by intelligently designing the irrigation (especially by taking advantage of the possibility of surrounding the farmland by a ring of water).

Sadly Dire seldom goes into practical usage. See recent episodes of Sjin's Feed the World series (focus on the multifarm episode and the powering up episode) if you want to see someone figure out how to power it in a real, resource-constrained environment.

Forestry farms actually do really well with trickle power. Surprisingly so.

So no possibility of the modder fixing this for 1.4.7? Another reason to want FTB updated to 1.5.X or even 1.6 faster. But I don't want to rush them as more bugs like this might occur.

No one is developing for 1.4.7 anymore save for perhaps critical fixes. FTB has a 1.5.* beta, and there are community modpacks.

Did some more testing on it and it just doesn't work properly on 1.4.7. Every crop and vegetable reacts the same when put into that machine:random placement of water and then filling it in, massive use of water supply, etc. Will have to wait for FTB Ultimate to be updated to 1.5.X before I can use it.

I'm running FTB ultimate 1.5.2. beta right now, and if you're not after anything Forestry specific (chestnut orchard?), you might want to give MFR farms a try. MFR does IMHO have some benefits, such as being more efficient space wise, and the possibility for fully automated / renewable fire-and-forget systems, which is something I really like.

Where do I get that 1.5.2 Beta?

It's a private pack. You can type in 152wget to get the 1.5.2 pack with gregtech on the private section of the launcher. I can't remember what the code is for no gregtech though.
