If I have only 2 industrial steam engines hooked up to a boiler that can handle much more, will the fuel be wasted or used less?

Nope, fuel is just managing the boiler heat. You are merely wasting steam (potential). On the other hand, if you had a boiler size / pressure type that matched your current steam consumption, you would indirectly be using a bit less fuel (the boiler would be smaller).

Alright. well for now, I've created a 7x6x7 iron tank to store the excess steam until I figure out what I want to use it on (more quarries or forestry farms perhaps? :D)

Forestry farms are not really good power use, because one farming complex (arboretum/logger etc.) can run completely fine on 1 MJ/t. I'd use excess steam to power stem turbine, with additional EUs you can at lest make UU-matter, in BC energy world maybe charging energy cells would be useful. However with constantly running boiler you don't really need to care about storing BC energy.

Ah, never knew that! Thanks for the info. I'm completely new to Forestry and RedPower. Only really used Buildcraft and IC2 a lot.

So I have my forestry farm producing Biofuel, but the setup is extremely clumsy. Here, I'll show some pictures and you can tell me what's going on (good luck):

The farm is fully self sustainable except I need to supply a chest full of Humus for the Arboretum and another full of Fertilizer for my Fermenters. It rarely needs supply, though. On a full chest, it can last more than an IRL day.

Pipe hell, I like it ;). The next step would be full automation with peat farm for dirt and wheat farm for mulch (via moistener).

Yes, indeed. Then I can expand my Biofuel production!

Oh god, building this thing was like typing code and not commenting any of it (I'm a programmer). There were a few mistakes after I finished it and I had to go in and trace pipes all over to find why pipes were mixing, things were spilling, etc. but I finally got it working with no mistakes. Now I'm just trying to see if the tree farm can supply enough saplings to keep up.

Damn dude did you work out your pipe runs by throwing a handful of cooked spaghetti into a fan? :D
Seriously though the tree farm will easily outstrip the requirements of a fermenter or 2 over time after running my setup in my last world for a while I had a couple barrels of saplings, more wood than I could ever use as well as more rubber than I could ever use :)
I was also running 20 Biogas engines on biomass from the same farm as well as the full size LP boiler on biofuel

I'm not using Catalyst automatically. I do that manually, though I have a small mob farm that passively gets me a few mob drops (bones for catalyst). I am however powering 3 fermenters, though. Probably hard to see behind the spaghetti of pipes :D

Yeah mine was without Catalyst as well, I'm too lazy to do much more than build it and forget it lol

If you have a low pressure boiler you might want to upgrade if your going to run some engines and a turbine at a good rate.
