I'm currently working on my barrel sorting system and I pre-loaded the items into the barrels before starting to pump them in from the quarries and chests but for some reason instead of going to the pre-loaded barrels for say Vis Shards (or any of the shards I'm having problems with all of them) sometimes they just go to a empty barrel I haven't loaded with something yet instead of going to the barrel with the shard already in it ? I can't figure out or Find an explanation as to why its doing that ?

oh I'm using tesseracts and relays with Pneumatic Pipe to move the items into the barrels

Anyone able to shed some light on to this problem for me please do

Are you trying to pump them in from the top, bottom or side?
Because items can only enter preloaded barrels from the top, but for some reason can enter empty ones from below

Pneumatic tubes work by sending items to the closest valid inventory, so it's also possible that the empty barrels are equidistant from the shards barrel, thus sending them over there occasionally instead of into the intended barrel.

I would guess that this is your problem in some way shape or form. A barrel and pneumatic tube based sorting system is typically meant to never have any empty barrels, thereby leaving each item only one possible valid destination.

If that doesn't help (or doesn't make sense) a picture would definitely be useful for further troubleshooting.

Here is the screenshot I had the bottom 2 rows pre-filled with all the dusts gems etc. and as I started pumping them into them it just started filling the other barrels randomly sometimes having multiple barrels with the same item in them. As far I as can read the tubes are supposed to be able to tell which items are in the barrels and send them to the barrels which is why I pre-fed the barrels (as I saw in a few videos for this.) I have the tubs all coming in from the top on the back side

Its kinda hard to see but next to the diamond is Genla Dust and then it started filling some there and some above it and to the right a few barrels next to the Apatite

It's easy to say what the issue is. Pneumatic tubes send to valid destinations. Valid destinations are empty barrels or barrels with items of the same type in it.
So if an empty barrel is closer than the barrel with items of the same type, it will send to the empty barrel.
I suggest just filling up your empty barrels with some sort of filler item, like cobble or a mob drop from a spawner. That way everything else will go to the proper barrels and you can just remove the filler item when you need more barrels

Ok I must of misunderstood the guy in his videos he made it seem like the tubes would send it to only that one barrel if it already have the item in it which was the benefit of using the tubes over BC pipes guess its time to bust out the cobble from my quarry chest -_-

There's still massive benefit to using RP tubes over BC pipes for this kind of thing. Getting BC pipes to work with that many barrels would be an absolute nightmare by comparison, since you would have to explicitly tell every item where to go at every intersection.

But anyway, just slap something temporary into the unused barrels until you have a use for them. Although I would avoid using cobble like you seem to be implying. Pick something that won't ever be coming out of your quarry (like smoothstone) so that when you want to repurpose a barrel you only have to pull one item.
