Purple Totem?

I was playing FTB today and ran across a purple totem-like thing in the woods. It was in a Woodlands biome. I was wondering what it is and if its just for looks or does it serve a purpose?

Its from the latest Thaumcraft 3 update, is should have an Aura Node right above it.

It's from Thaumcraft 3. They have a few interesting aspects and are used for a very advanced research. They also make neat decorations. In spite of their appearance, you can mine them with iron just fine.

They are used with Aura Cores to move aura nodes. You place 8 of them in a square, two high, with a space between them, and place the core in the middle. It will move the closest aura node within 24 blocks to that spot. You can read about them in your thuamanamicon once you unlock the research.

you need 2 nether stars, one for the core (that if you break it you get the star back but only pieces of the other components) and one for the super wand, since it takes 300 vis for it to start.

I found 2 of them very close to each other. Since I'm new to FTB I have no idea what to do with them so just left them alone...lol. Maybe further down the line I will look into them.

Player on our server has like a stack of nether stars....he automated wither spawning and killing. its hilarious!

Yeah and someone found a way to automate spawning and killing him, so there's no problem anymore!
(Wither is such a cheater.... >_>)

I'd love to hear how the spawning is automated.
Blueprint? Deployer?

No he places the skulls himself but it spews out the soulsand on demand for him. Then it suffocates the wither because he has warded stone around it. which it cannot break.
