Would the Intel Xeon L5520 be a decent processor for a server for FTB Unleashed or anything with over 130 mods installed? The max amount of people I expect on at one time would be 5. Would it be able to handle it?

The E3 and E5 from intel are the best you can get for minecraft, E3 dominating in single thread preformance however the E5 1650v2 is a powerhouse as well. However the best CPU for minecraft is arguably a overclocked intel i7 4770k and the i7 3930k @4.2- 4.6ghz the overclocked CPUs just dominate anything else you can get for minecraft with up to 500 people per core on vanilla at 18+ TPS, but if your on a budget get the E3 1245v2 or the E3 1270v3.

Edit forgot to mention the overclocked i7 3820k isn't bad either.

So if you wanted the best ever dedicated server with 0 overloading of the CPU a overclocked i7 4770k would do it without questions? If so how much do you expect to pay a host for such a powerful build per month on 16GB size with like a 240GBish SSD with 10TB of bandwidth?

In my opinion the i7 3930k is better for me because it is a hex core CPU so I bought that.

My current server is the i7 3930k overclocked

64gb ram

2x3TB sata3 on raid0

1Gb/s

Ddos protection of 10Gb/s for all 3 ipv4 addresses

In a low latency datacenter in France for $218 a month.

There are only two hosts I know of that offer overclocked servers, they are intreppid and mcmyhost.net upon request

I use mcmyhost.net also the 4770k and the 3930k are the same price from them.

Ahh cool however why no SSD? Normally people have a typical 1TB STATA hard drive for backing up only.

People, please look at the single threaded performance chart I posted before telling someone what the best CPU is for. Until Tick Threading is updated and stable, any CPU with low performance and/or lots of cores is a waste unless your running multiple servers. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html

An Intel I7 3930K is only scoring 1943 points and is costing around $550 on Amazon or similar sites.

An Intel Xeon E3-1275 v3 is scoring 2300 points in the same benchmark, and costs only $395 on Amazon or similar sites. This is roughly a 15% gain over the 3930K for $100 or more less.

However, this is not even the best deal. An Intel I5 4670K scores 2174 points and is only $225 from most retailers.

Some people were probably thinking that isn't fair because the Xeon can't overclock, so the 3930K can match it or beat it a little bit. The 4670K is the best chip for FTB servers for the simple reason that it at stock speeds and power usage, beats almost every chip. It can be overclocked in order to beat every chip, except its more powerful sibling the 4770K, although the 4770K is $100 more expensive then the 4670K and the extra performance is marginal.

With i7 I on,y recommend using them for servers when overclocked as the e3s and some e5s just dominate them otherwise.

it is at my budget and with my world size I would need at least a 480GB SSD which is too much for me. So I got the 2x2TB 7200rpm on raid 0 to double the IOPS in effort for a more SSD like server.

I'm aware the IOPS still can't even come close to a SSD but it is still good and WAY cheaper.
