This topic has been up before, and I know about getting permissions, but I have 2 other questions.

1. How do we add the private pack to the launcher?

2. If I got permission could I use someone elses private mod pack?

1. How do we add the private pack to the launcher?

From http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/forums/third-party-mod-packs.48/:

Specifically http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/guidelines-for-private-mod-packs.9598/:

From Watchful11:
Private mod pack submissions should be PM'd to the mod pack team. Watchful11, Lathanael, CWW256

2. If I got permission could I use someone elses private mod pack?

Private mod packs have an access code, which you then share with people so they can use your pack. If you get permission from someone to use their pack, they'll give you the code, and you will use that to use the pack.

There are quite a few threads about this, just search. Basically you need written permission from each mod developer for you specifcly to use it. That's only the first step.

Okay that's helped alot, but one more question now arises, when it says credit the authour and give a link to thier work, where do we credit them and add the link? Do you add it in the text file you send to the mods with the mod pack or is there some other place you do it?

When required to credit a mod's author, I believe that means in the thread you create under the third part mod pack forum.

If you're going to go to this trouble, I recommend against the private modpack system. Self-host your stuff in S3 and use MultiMC. You can use FTB and its updates as a basis, then launch from MultiMC. Why gate yourself on someone else's work?

I recommend this, as well, although I use wetransfer.com to send the latest update across, but the endgame is still the same. The FTB launcher is also no where near as featured as the MultiMC launcher.

What's MultiMC?

It is a MineCraft launcher, similar to the FTB launcher, or the default MineCraft launcher, but with many more options.

I'm not really after features, just something userfriendly, and since the mods here do half the work for you by distributing private packs, I don't see any reason not to use FTB. Bear in mind they already sorted out all mods and configs to remove ID conflicts so all mods can work together.

Just been told The ultimate mod pack will be released within a week, so i'm just going to wait for that and disable the mods I don't want, so much easier.

That's what I'm in the process of doing. I'm using the FTB magic pack as my base and adding the mods I want using MultiMC. When I'm happy with the package I will setup a website to post it for my users. I'm still in the adding/testing stage at this point.
