I don't know man, I keep spawning in crappy worlds in Magic World v6...

I have way too many islands (even if they're quite big, they're still islands) that consist of a handful of biomes only with EBXL enabled...

Just 20mins ago, I generated 50MB of terrain alone, flying around to check the terrain, only to find a couple of usable locations. So many islands - big and small - and only 4-5 biomes in variation.

Either I'm having extremely TERRIBLE luck or the v5 pack had an older EBXL version that made better terrain. Because I vividly remember some awesome maps I generated there.

I don't know, even in my current map I'm located on a huge island. Don't get me wrong, I like exploring, I don't demand awesome locations right from the start but something seems fishy here...

My server world Gen also was island based. No land for like 1500m in all directions (REI's minimap) Does Magic World have MystCraft in the Pack? I am using it to expand My Base. Slow going to start with but when you start creating MystCraft Worlds that little Island Gets a whole lot bigger.

Here's my current MW v6 world:

I spawned in a fairly small area (big island, but small compared to spawning on a continent. I still made the best of it tho. I had trees and plant life. I made a pick, went down to diamond level asap. As soon as I got a diamond, off I went to twilight forest. Got books from a lich tower and mystcrafted some worlds so that I could have some supplies in an easier fashion (hollow hills are dangerous without armor). Then, since I have a small area to work with, decided to just make myself an underwater bio-dome. Working on it atm but I don't have nearly enough sand to make glass with and not enough energy generation to really run a pulvy full speed.

A few Tree Farms are a good supply of sand without having to spade it.

Need to go Under water myself at some point. Am thinking a few other Tree farms on the surface of the sea.

Before my current world I went through a dozen world gens and kept ending up in the middle of the ocean.

In my current world.... well I'm in the middle of the ocean but I got a volcano. I did spawn in land but once I got mats I moved out and well yeah oceans soooo many oceans.

Yeeeeaaah, Mystcraft is one way of getting new maps, I don't want to rely on it too much though, you never know when other bugs might deem it non-stable, if I move there I might get screwed big time...

I need to get one of those map thingies, that render the generated terrain, to actually see what I'm explored. Or even disable a bunch of snow biomes (not too fond of snow) and the zebra-tree forests to see if that changes anything.

It's not that I'm in a bad shape right now, but once Ars Magica gets included with its world gen stuff, I won't have any of it in my island, I'll either have to resort to Mystcraft or create a new world. Or worst case scenario, sail for god knows how long to find new (is)lands...

Hmmm, tricky situation.

Considering the extreme volume of possible seeds you can generate a world with, you appear to simply have unnatural luck involved.

Keep going with either new worlds or out into the distance of a present one. I've also found some stellar locations after starting in the middle of oceans (of which I had a chain of SEVERAL! ). Then a random drop with large biomes netted a village about 100m away from spawn and a lovely vista. Remember how big the world actually is in MC. You might have a sucky spawn but you CAN find a great location in ANY world! :D

Well even in Vanilla MC oceans are the most common biome.

I normally need to start some world before I find something nice. But I do not think that EXBL changed that much lately, but I'm hoping for the rework and possibly some more config-options. As scott said we might be able to adjust a lot of details in minecraft during world-generation and that might include the amount of ocean generated.

I seem to get quite a few waterworlds myself.

I was wondering if EBXL was generating oceans in place of the biomes i had removed.
Can't stand those super tall tree biomes, make me so laggy. So i've modded it down to just the fall time forest.

You are having bad luck. Only once have I had a spawn that started me on an island in the middle of an ocean (said island had no useful resources, not even a blade of long grass).

I would actually love to have a start location which was a series of islands. Dedicate each island to one type of thing, building bridges between them - lovely and a greatly reduced chance of annoying mobs visiting you. hsssst-BOOM

I had a similarly bad world and so what I did was dig straight down to bedrock, mine a few diamonds, harvest enough obsidian for two nether portals, go to the nether and find a fortress, seal off a little area of the fortress and build a new obsidian portal, go through that portal which took me to a very nice area in a forest with desert and snowy biomes within 125m, and built my base there. So now the obsidian portal from my base toes right to my nether fortress base.

If I ever do an LP I think I would just take a random seed an go. No mater how bad because in the end a bad spawn would actually be more interesting. Provided you can at lest get some food before you die that is.
