Paper axe? Why not just use Thaumium?
Paper stacks with other paper, thaumium does not.

Paper modifiers stack with each piece of paper, thaumium stacks per 2. So 1 thaumium gives 1 mod, 2 thaumium gives 1 mod, 3 thaumium gives 2, 4 thaumium gives 2 etc

To get an unbreaking axe we need unbreaking 10. We get unbreaking 3 from the obsidian head, 3 standard mods, 3 from paper and 1 from the gold block + diamond. If you use thaumium instead of paper you need to use a nether star to get to unbreaking. Additionally, the only advantage to thaumium would be... what exactly? We dont need a tool modifier or high durability, because the tool cannot break annyway. You could, however, use a cobalt axe head (unbreaking 2)for some faster speed and use a nether star to obtain unbreaking that way. Kind of an expensive upgrade, but would be a decent speed upgrade.

That's why you use one thaumium piece, one obsidian piece, and two paper pieces. In the case of a lumber axe, doing axe head/large plate out of either obsidian/thaumium would give you a bit more speed than what you would get if you made a paper large plate.

Just relooked at the Axe, best combo is indeed with a thaumium plate, obsidian axe head and paper binding and tool rod. Using the nether star for haste. This actually outperforms a cobalt axe head! I also noticed that its now possible to add a golden apple (block one) and a diamond block for another midifier. This means you can get 2x haste or autosmelt with luck for charcoal production (yes, this works!)

Dont have natura though :D But it does sound tempting now... ok screw it, I gotta try it. Give me an hour or so :p

Edit: this is gonna take a while, Need to figure out the minimum growth of the tree and cap the maximum growth to it in order to get it harvested. If at all possible ^^ (need to harvest the lowest block)

Edit2: Ok seems unlikely that this will work. The lumber axe does not harvest "inverted" on the tree meaning it needs to be used on the lower end of the tree. The problem here is that you cannot limit the tree's growth, it will grow and destroy right trough blocks. This makes it impossible to place the dynamism tablets near anny harvestable wood as they would get destroyed by the leaves.
