Hello people of the FTB Forums,

I have had an idea for a mod for 1.7.x that I need feedback on. The mod will be a magic mod with planned compatabillity with the current big magic mods like Ars Magica 2 and Thaumcraft 4. However, I need to know if anyone is interested in a Demonic/necromancy mod before I learn how to mod and begin to develop it. As you would expect I am hoping for feedback and even ideas, as well as links to locations where I can learn the basics of modding. Your feedback would be much appreciated.

I am interested in such a mod.
Though compat with BM and Witchery would be great because they deal with such things

It was planned, I was just naming a couple. I am also planning to have Botania compatibility. What do you think about magical machines in a sort of tech tree like fashion?

(To be completely honest I was afraid I would get negative feedback or none at all. I'm glad that you support this idea).

Magic machines have always interested me, but there are so few of them in other mods. So I would love it. Though the tech tree would be really cool if it was in a method similar to Thaum, but instead have a kind of ritual of divining (just an idea)

That's exactly what I was thinking. I just don't want the mod to be a Thaumcraft twin with minor differences.

I have a list of rituals ready but I will probably wait until I know more people are interested.

Any villager that walks up to a person and honks is most likely pretty virginal.

I think there's a big gaping niche for advanced magical multi-block structures. TC4 has some I gather (I'm not well versed on the subject) but I'm basically thinking a magical version of GregTech (with lots of config options to appease the masses)

Ok, so rituals would be performed like Thaumcraft infusion. The layout below is what your starting alter will look like. Keep in mind that the x's represent pedestals and the o represents the center alter itself. (the Alter has to be exposed to light).

X O X This is all in a 5x5 area.

I apologize for the crappy representation of the Alter but that's all I could do. It's also important to note that as the rituals get more advanced, the Alter gets bigger(more rings) and taller.

So on to the rituals

Tier 1-

- Ritual of the Apprentice: Ruined book in the middle, ink sack, jar, zombie head, and creeper head on the pedestals = Necrotic Compendium
- Ritual of the Core: Sunstone in the middle, blaze rods, lava buckets, and ender pearls on the pedestals = Eternal flame (infinite lava block. Non-pumpable)
- Ritual of the stream: Aquastone in the middle, snowballs, buckets of water and ended pearls = Eternal Spring (infinite water block. Also non-pumpable)
Ritual of Energy: Arcane Shell in the middle, redstone, and arcane dust on the pedestals = Arcane Generator

That's all I've got for now. Names of everything are WIP and I am open to suggestions. And sadly I have looked into nodding and I can honestly say that this is going to be very challenging for me and will take a long time. I'm not nearly experienced enough to develop a huge mod like this so if anyone of you would like to take over I won't have a problem with it. Don't get me wrong, I'll still develop it, but if anyone else wants to take over I'm fine with that.

I don't want to ruin my rep by developing a crappie mod. So I apologize but I'm passing on the torch to any experienced mod developer.

That would be a shame. Really, how do you want to become a good mod developer, if you don't start somewhere? And I think the main problem with Thaumcraft Extras was not that the mod was implemented by a beginner, but that the developer apparently stopped developing and everyone thought he was just lazy/didn't care about the suggestions. Otherwise the mod would just have been ignored and everything would be fine and calm.

If you have a nice mod idea, and are up to learning how to make mods (honestly: that is a lot of time you have to spend to learn modding and to implement/improve/support/fix your mod and you should definitely think about it if you find that worth your time), please do so. I you don't feel up to it, thats ok, but just quitting because a new developer got critized would be really sad.

That being said, I like your idea as well. I'd be really interested in how you plan to realize the necromancy stuff.

To follow up on @ex13's comments, as a developer myself, I highly highly highly recommend you start small. Create something tiny and neat, and target yourself as the probably SINGLE audience. Forget everyone else for a while.

Grow from there. Don't plan out a huge mod because you'll just bum yourself out with how daunting the task is. Begin with a tiny recipe that does something you'd find fun and useful; one day add another. Maybe some day you'll have a sweet mod worth sharing!

Planning out a huge mod is fine, in fact I've got several written down in a folder in google drive. But yeah, starting small is definitely recommended

Thank you all for the support, i just didn't realize how large of a task it could be especially for someone as inexperienced as me. honestly i would take the class if the teacher wasn't my current math teacher, (that witch). I will start small and i will try as hard as i can. and who knows, maybe there will be a cool new mod on the forum.
