I was really talking about your console log. Open the launcher and to the Options tab. Ensure that there are checks in the boxes next to 'Show Console?' and 'Reopen launcher after exiting minecraft?' Then when you get the error if you have to close minecraft the launcher should reopen and allow you to click on the 'Paste my log to pastebin.com' button. This will add a link at the bottom of your console post that link here so we can see your log. Look here for more info about the logs.

Somewhere throughout this crazy mess, I deleted the "New World" Folder. I thought I had a backup but it isn't there. Are there any automatic backups? Is there any way I can get the world back?

No there isn't an auto back up. Your world is gone forever. (Unless it's in your Recycle bin)
