Hi! I had previously build a castle with a mage's tower in a void age on a server with the FTBBetaA modpack. I recently updated the modpack to the Direwolf20 pack, I have placed a half-circle of dirt around my laboratory at the top of the tower, and planted 5 silverwood trees there, but they won't grow, and I can't get any aura/flux readings with my goggles of revealing either. I do get information about the nodes in the overworld, but not in my age. will silvertrees not grow in a void age at all? or am I too high up? I'm at block level 100 or something.

Aura Nodes are generated based on the amount of vegetation in the area during worldgen. Void ages have none. Silverwood trees create a new, small, pure aura node when they grow, but to do so, they have to borrow from existing nodes. As you have no existing nodes, the Silverwood trees have no nodes to borrow from and thus cannot grow.

Infused Stone is immune to Silk Touch, by design.

The Crystal Clusters won't do anything when there's no node to effect, unfortunately.

I don't know if it makes a difference that I am on a Magic World modpack server, but to generate Aura Nodes in a void age use silk touch to bring some grass into the age, place it then move away until a new chunk is generated and now you have Aura Nodes in a void age.

Really? Aura node generation will check for vegetation farther than chunks load around the player?

I have void age which it happened without me knowing, then I was able to replicate the results with a single block with grass in a new void age when I tried.

On the server I play on I can turn on creative and fly around if I choose so I just flew away from the single block of grass. I've gotten over 1000 blocks away and I am still seeing nodes being generated, that is well outside the loaded chunks.

I found one node! it's way below my platform. and if I'm on the courtyard, I have the aura readings with my goggles, if I can measure an aura with my goggles, is the spot I'm standing at close enough for nodes to share aura?

I think it should be, but then again I have noticed some impressive range on those goggles. If your Silverwood trees still aren't growing, then maybe it is not close enough... or maybe not big enough.

the trees on my courtyard grew, but still no growth up at my tower. do the auras need to be at a minimum size before they can share enough power to make other trees grow?

I would imagine so. I've never seen an aura node lower than about... 25 or 30.

But if you've got them started, that's good. You can start producing more Aura if you can get Crystal Clusters, and from there you can keep regrowing Silverwood trees around the same spots to grow the nodes larger until they meet your needs.

crystal clusters are knowledge fragment research right? I have gotten 3 nodes started, not all the way up where I want them but it's getting there, it seems the flux gets higher and higher as more trees are grown, is it supposed to be like that? and they have a hard time recharging, one node never seems to get higher than 20/121 aura

The only two ways to recharge a node is to get it to eat the magic from Infused Stone, turning it dull, or to feed off the Crystal Clusters, which are the only renewable source of Aura. What you're doing by growing more trees is causing what Aura is there to rearrange itself. The Flux is coming from the rearranging of the Aura. Aura Nodes generate Flux on any and all transference of their Aura.

The Crystal Clusters are one of the theories that comes from the Knowledge Fragments, yes.
