Recently, several people on my server have asked that I add pixelmon on top of the pack (using unleashed 1.5.2), and I figured why not. I added the right version to the pack, and there were no problems with running the game when I tested it in an ssp, except for one thing. There were no indications that the mod installed. No items, no pokemon in the world, nothing. So...any idea whats happening? Its not like there is a conflict, as then it would not have ran.

PixelMon does not play well with most mods, including NEI. This may be the source of your problem. Pixelmon should be a standalone mod, not in a pack like Unleashed.
Not to tell you how to run a server, but as cool as the models are, the actual combat is super boring. I too had the notion of adding it, but was severely let down from the combat. Tell them to watch a pixelmon tournament on youtube and ask them if they still think its something they want.
Create a test server with just that for them to play in before spending too much time trying to wedging it in somewhere.
