My friend recently made me a modpack for my own use in a singleplayer map. It's located where the rest of my modpacks are, and it has its own name set. My issue is that FTB launcher won't notice its presence and allow me to play it. I even tried renaming it to one of the other modpacks and seeing if I could access it that way, which didn't work.

How do I solve this?

One cannot simply make a personal modpack and launch it with the FTB launcher because there is a bunch of rules and restrictions for this (like assuring permission by mod developers and the like, using private codes in order to restrict access etc.).
As I see it, there are two quick fixes for you:
1. Use MultiMC instead of FTB
2. Ask your friend how he starts this pack

ps:
Should you encounter problems, please bear in mind that these forums support FTB exclusively. You will not receive any official help here.

Well, I got MultiMC downloaded, put it in the "instance" folder and was able to run it, but another issue arose. It now won't load any of the mods. It just loaded up a vanilla minecraft.

And is there anywhere I can go for some help, then?

For MultiMC, you must first create a new instance, then manually add all mods. Right-click the instance, select "Edit mods", then add:
to the tab "Minecraft.jar": the required Forge version
to the tab "Coremods Folder": the core mods
to the tab "Mods Folder": all other mods

And is there anywhere I can go for some help, then?
As I said, the maker of the pack seems to be the foremost address when it comes to support. He's your friend, so why don't you contact him?
