Leaving the trees in place, trimming the leaves, and only harvesting the nodules without overtapping.

vs.

Overtapping trees and cutting them down.

Which do you choose? Note that automation is not a choice here (consider it earlier in the game.)

Depends on how many skeletons I had to thrash up castlevania-style.

I don't overtap at all, since it burns through regular treetap durability pretty fast. But, if a rubber tree has less than two rubber spots on it, I usually cut it down and replant (with bone meal).

While I am out exploring I overtap and cut them because I won't see them again. I like trimming and harvesting without overtapping in my own base though. I usually try and automate it pretty quick though because I neglect rubber collecting a lot.

I always forget to overtap. but i chop em down in the wild. sometimes without tapping first. Getting a good pile of rubber tree saplings can be a pain unless you start in or near a swamp. If i haven't settled down yet i will turn any sap into torches tho. no need to carry sap around when a couple of stone swords and a night out can net a nice pile of bones in no time. If I'm hurting for rubber later on i will tap and chop unless it's a 3 holer or better tree. got to keep those big producers. after a while you may have 5 or 6 such big production trees in your farm, and then a single tapping run can net you half a stack of resin easily.

They seem faster to cut down than other trees. So, I just fell the lot and replant. Forget the whole tap business - seems a waste of time for me. Once I have a centrifuge and extractor the rubber forest has grown beyond my ability to use all the rubber.

Never overtap as long as I don't have a forestry setup. Then, rubber tree farm and unlimitad rubber seems the best solution to me.
