Hello, I just had a question that I hope I didn't screw up on xD.

(Direwolf20 1.5 mod pack)

So I just bred some trees, and I just got the pecan tree. This tree, when I ran it through the analyzer, told me that it produces pecan nuts, so I made a small forestry multifarm in order to use the orchard function on it (I created the correct circuit board for it and everything), but... I've left it on for quite a while and when checking my AE system, no pecan nuts.

I'm kinda stumped, the multifarm in manual mode (for the orchard mode) doesn't plant the dirt (which was my first thought, I'm not sure if you need something other than dirt or something to place there), so I don't think that's the problem, and when using bone meal on the leaves, they ripen and are collected by the multifarm, so I know the farm is working. The only culprit here then would be the tree not producing anything (after a few hours of them being planted), which I'm not sure why.

Any suggestions? (thank you in advance for your answers/time :3)

I was under the impression that, aside from apples, Forestry trees that produce fruits/nuts require either manual fertilization (i.e. bonemeal) or else bees (and/or, as of recent updates, butterflies) actively working in the area, though I'm not far enough into bees/trees/butterflies to know for sure.

Nope, they mature on their own (in fact, that is the effect of the "matures" trait in the treealyser).

For multifarm configuration, it does need the stone bricks below the dirt, to denote the areas that are valid farmland. It will also need fertiliser, and to make sure that the board is configured for the right side (or all sides) using an intricate circuit (as far as I know, the others will leave side unoccupied).

I think I'll provide some pics, but I think it's something to do with the trees -_-. Is there a trait on them I should be aware of that would make them grow slow (or not at all)?

Ok, here we go:

What these show is that:
-Yup the pecans are pure pecan
-Yup the farm is configured correctly (circut board, bricks, etc)
-When I hit it with bone meal, it does mature and,
-When I check my AE system, there are pecans in there (2 to be exact, even though I bone mealed about 8 leaves -_-)

Update: Well, after waiting for hours the 2 pecans that were in my AE network has increased to 5 -_-, so I guess it is the trees being slow. xD

If you look at the first page of the tree analyzer, the yield says it is the lowest. I have not worked with trees before, but I imagine there to be a machine you can use to change the genetics like you can with bees.

I'm having the same issue with beech nuts. I've had them on my multi-farm in orchard mode for about 3 real life hours, and the only nuts I've gotten were from when I used bone meal on the trees. I would have thought I would have obtained a few more than that. I guess they aren't kidding when they say the yield is lowest.

Yup, it's better to breed some walnuts or chestnuts, also can't wait for extra trees machines.

You need to crossbreed them with a faster yielding tree. Pecans are a new tree and a lot of the trees in ExtraTrees exist just for really interesting genetic diversity options. TBH though you're probably better off trying to make faster chestnut trees.

I've gotten about 40-50 beechnuts just playing the mini-game in the escritore. Much easier than waiting for them to mature.

I'll look into the faster yielding trees. This is my first time with trees. I take it that the tricks that work with bees are the same. ie. cross beech with chestnuts, get a hybrid, then breed the hybrids together to try and get a sapling that is purebred beech with the genetic traits of the hybrid (ie. faster yield)?

So that's why my trees from extra trees didn't give me fruits for seed oil. You naughty Binnie :) I must make some GMO tree breeding :).

Plum has a freakin' fantastic yield if I remember correctly. Plum = 5% hill cherry + lemon. Lemon = 5% hill cherry + silver lime. I shouldn't have to tell you how to get silver lime. Then you just have to get lucky with the crossbreeding.

I am playing with BoP, but I'm in a vanilla plains biome. I'm not in the latest BoP version, so maybe there are bug fixes to address this?

If you have the enhanced vanilla biomes I would be worried its still breaking it. I havent tested in the latest version for BoP. There is a new version that does squash many bugs...

My beechnut orchard finally started producing nuts yesterday. It took it about 2-3 minecraft weeks and 3 real life days before the trees started to actually ripen on their own and start producing. I've collected a total of 13 beechnuts from it now. I found 4 in the farm yesterday, and 9 today.
