For those of you still interested: I've finally come up with a proper name: "The Plundered Land". Fits the theme -- you are in resource poor worlds. Fits the lore you have at game start -- you are told that your land was robbed by a Lich.

Should I change (or request a change of) the pack code from "OverkillJam" to something better (PlunderedLand, or something similar)?

I never posted the 4th session here.

Final prep. Lighting of some dark areas in the approach to the lava, prepping an "emergency base", cleaning up around the sand pit, and then ... returning home to make arrows, armor, fences, glass, etc -- the final prep for the assault on the nether.

Granted, this is likely to be the least interesting episode of the series, but at least the first half is in dangerous territory.

So I'd like to get an idea of how popular this pack is, and how much demand there is for a continuation of the quest lines.

While there is some fleshing out that can be done on the overworld -- smithy chests were not supposed to have any ores, but both dungeon and mineshaft chests do, and the stronghold chests are supposed to have lots of paper and gunpowder; one stronghold, plus an iron golem farm will give you plenty of material to get started with rotarycraft very early (bonemeal grass for the canola seeds to make lubricant), and the "Off the rails" questline could be written for that -- the primary focus on additional quests will be twilight forest and mystcraft to start. (No, I did not deliberately kill off the villagers to prevent the obvious iron golem farm from being shown because I wanted to actually have a "as intended" playthrough for your viewing, because if I had left them alive someone would have said "Breed them and get a golem" which would have been followed by "Make iron"...)

The first thing that will be done if I do expand on the quests is fixing the twilight forest seed, so I can give you location quests. Which means that if you have done anything in the twilight forest, you'll have to wipe your map for the new quests.

I have, apparently, a lot more people playing according to the poll results than I expected. For this, I am both glad, and grateful. It seems that I have a fairly reasonable balance between too hard and too easy. I would like to see how much interest there is in finishing the quests.

Episode 5: Securing the area around the lava lake.

Remember, when you're working next to lava, one long-range bow shot is all it takes to kill you. So, lets make this safe. Safer. More safer.

AHHHH...

I have been delayed, badly, by lots of things going on. Ranging from real life, to getting my 1.7.10 stuff ready to go.

But I finally got around to finishing up my playthrough. Last night, I did the "off camera" work down in the lava depths. Made it safe (fenced off some dark areas), etc. On twitch, to an audience of 1. (Side note: Streaming plus recording at the same time still is not working properly, even with better streaming software)

No one ever mentioned the lava bug. Those gigantic caves that I added in?

Normal caves and ravines were made bigger and more common, with Reika's Cave control. Those have normal lava.
The giant caves that I put in with Custom Ore Gen? I gave them block 10 lava.

No one mentioned that the giant caves don't make stationary lava that forms obsidian unless you play tricks. 11 is the proper (non-flowing) lava.

Sigh.

A 1.7.10 update is certainly possible. I've learned enough about the changes in twilight forest, and the fixes/nerfs in rotarycraft. Mystcraft has gotten much, much better (at least, the next version) at preventing "being lost" with no recovery. I'm expecting RoC version 4 to be a stable targer, and the hydrokinetic engines are still basically the "best" way to go. Long-chained hydros are now replaced with short-chained hydros, coils, and bedrock breakers, and that gives long-chained hydros. (Of course, this now requires running the extractor, and ..., ...). The other competitors to "best" were wind (nerfed) and solar (also nerfed), and the jet/micro turbine engines kinda require nether mobs, in a pack with no access to the nether. (But then, I've already planned a hell-biome age, so maybe that's not as bad as I had previously thought. I certainly do NOT want to make it a full progression through RoC, and when I started this back when RoC was 23 or 24, there was no big nerf on those cheap engines.)

Okay, I want advice from the people that tried this, whether you liked it or not.

RotaryCraft has plugged all of the tech-tree skipping stuff; my old idea of getting you to bedrock breaking quickly is no longer possible, reasonable, or relevant.

Basically, I need a new "final completion quest" for the Jampack 2 contest. The script for the original, if I had finished it, was basically as follows:
1. You arrive in the twilight forest, following up on leads that the removal of all ores and gems from the overworld corresponded to sighting of the Lich from TF.
2. Getting some armor from TF -- the enchanted steelleaf stuff from a minotaur lair.
3. Taking out the Lich (*)
4. Finding the Lich's diary, and getting the real scoop -- the Lich was aware of, and trying to stop someone else. Access to Mystcraft ages from work the Lich had been working on.
5. Several Mystcraft ages. The first was a simple introduction to mystcraft and safety; next were some puzzles, and resource ages. In particular, one would be a flat world, single biome, hell biome, netherrack ground -- a ghast shooting gallery (use bow and arrows for gunpowder). Consider that the only source of gunpowder is either stronghold chests or ghasts, or TF mobs in the labyrinths or ghastling towers, and gunpowder is needed for RotaryCraft.
6. "Final" age was intended by the Lich to be a trap age (disarm) for the person stealing all the resources. Huge amounts of iron, to act as a lure for this person that was stealing iron for those steel-hungry machines. Unfortunately, it was even less of an effective trap than Riven -- creating new books from here is possible, and "easy".
7. "Slidecraft" until you can find a star fissure, to get back to the overworld.
8. RotaryCraft would be introduced starting at the twilight forest, with a message about looking for sources of gunpowder. Lich's diaries would indicate the gunpowder source in the series of ages, as well as the large amounts of iron.
9. Finishing the quest lines results in you having full access to mystcraft ages, rotarycraft machines, etc., with open-ended "what do I do next".

Number 9 is no longer doable with the new rules (quests must have a completion).
RotaryCraft now has nothing to skip, so quests involving it would amount to a full tutorial for the mod, making it too big for the scope, so that is out.

As an alternative to Mystcraft, that includes tech, I could just use RfTools; it would probably need some mod to provide a basic set of power generators, and I can certainly customize things with it about as well as with Mystcraft.

But the basic issue is the same: How do I finish this? What is the ending quest?

The idea that some powerful, semi-magical being has stolen resources from a world because they are resource hungry fits things like RotaryCraft, and gives the resource scarcity that I was going for in this. With RotaryCraft now out of the picture, resource scarcity is less of a reason.

So I'm looking for some advice, ideas, brain storming, etc.

For 1.7.10, what is a good excuse for a low resource overworld, and what makes for a good "completion" quest?

So far, my "best" idea is to have reactor craft radiation poisoning, and an exploded reactor in the overworld -- the world is resource poor because everything went into a reactor that wasn't built properly. (Yea, I didn't say it was a _good_ idea :).

(*): Skippable, if you do something unusual. Not in the visible questline, but a hidden one that triggers a way to bypass killing the Lich

Episode 6. Testing of a new audio setup for streaming and recording. An examination of what is going on with the lava, what the design intention was, and why I goofed on that. Some derpage, and cleaning up of the lava area while I prepare to make a portal.
