I am finding myself in need of creating a patch of desert - which doesn't exist in my world within the explored distance of about 1200 blocks in every direction. I'd prefer not to have to climb the tech tree of a mod I haven't explored yet in my current world. This is what I know, and have:

Blood Magic: my altar and blood orb are tier 4. In order to use the Ritual of Gaia's Transformation, I'd have to set up an alchemy system to create the ingredients to summon an elemental, kill enough elementals to give me a few demon blood shards, and upgrade my Weak Activation Stone to an Awakened Activation Stone. Easy enough, but it involves fighting, and I hate fighting.

Witchery: I know there is a ritual for changing biomes in Witchery, but I am at zero with this mod, and I'm not in a hurry to explore it atm.

IC2: I never used the terraformer, I don't know how it works, and I don't have an IC2 infrastructure, but it would be easy enough to create one with the resources I have. Maybe it'd take a little longer than with BM, but it wouldn't involve fighting.

Are there any other options? Has anyone used the Blood Magic ritual or IC2's terraformer and can report on their functionality?

Its been a while since I've used the ic2 terraformer so things may be a bit different. Basically, you would need to create the Desertification tfbp(blueprint) And have some patience. I believe it can take almost any amount of power and speed up accordingly. Pretty much, it'll replace the blocks around you and simulate the biome of your blueprint. If memory serves correct, it doesn't actually change the biome type. Depending on power, it may take a few mc days as well. I believe the range was a 64 block diameter.

As said, things may have changed. You'll want to check their wiki before commiting. But, between the two choices, I feel ic2 would be easiest. Note: I suck at blood magic.

If you just need a patch of desert, a Mystcraft age is usually easier than actually changing biomes in the overworld. Very little investment. Maybe some trial and error until you get the desired pages which can be frustrating at times.

What pack are you running so we know what other options you may have at your disposal? Aldo, mind enlightening us as to why you need desert specifically?

This is because I'm well-prepared to add mods if they suit my style. Something Thaumcraft-based looks very appealing. I'll check that mod out.

@Inaeo:
I'm running Resonant Rise, which doesn't say much since it has so many optional mods that you can't have them all in the pack without running out of ids. Also, I know about Mystcraft, but I prefer a patch of desert near my base. For now.

Yup, Witching Gadgets has a terraforming device. To think that this morning when I wrote the OP, I thought "Why can't Thaumcraft do something like this", and poof, here's the mod that adds it. :) There's quite a bit of other interesting stuff in it, too. It appears to be a really nice addon.
