I have tried all of the optifine additions and none work, they just black screen my minecraft.

Has anyone gotten them to work well? My base has a HP Boiler and 10 engines with lots of tanks and energy flowing and my FPS is kinda weak now with the engines running all the time. I hear Optifine can help with FPS but it doesnt seem to work. Is it FTB incompatible or do I fail at installs?

How are you installing Optifine?

To install mods that need to go inside the jar to a currently existing modpack just drop the zip file inside of the modpack folder/instmods and start the game and the mod will be installed! To install other mods that need to go inside the /mods folder just go into /modpack/minecraft/mods and drop the mod inside when you next launch the game the mod will be installed, if you have problems after installing the mods please dont ask for support until you have tried removing the extra mods you added, if that fixes the problem then don't ask for support here ask the creators of the mod causing the problem!

Tried this on dw20. I ended up having to update forge. Check which forge you're running and see which one optifine currently requires.

I really wish everyone was somehow forced to install a bunch of mods by hand at least once before being allowed to use a modpack. Then something like "is my version of Forge compatible with the mod I'm trying to use" would not need a forum thread.

Try getting a new version of Optifine. I was using the brand new 1.4.7 one earlier, but that blackscreened. The new one (d6 or something) works fine with Forge.

Just a little tip.. When he releases a new Version he always says what version of forge it works with.. Like most mods its pretty important to use the right one.

Just a word of warning, If you don't add the latest Forge with optifine then doors won't work with pressure plates, buttons and levers

If you go to the FTB directory > mindcrack you'll see two folders. Can't recall the name exactly but it's like "inst mod" and you'll see .minecraft. Stick optifine inside the inst mod folder. Forge / lite and one other mod should already be in there.

Sorry I'm not very accurate, I'm at work and can't exactly download/install a game lol.

Forge 515 is the default for DW20 right now, that's Optifine C3

Actually you need 518 or later... The biggest reason I can think of that Optifine would improve someones FPS that doesn't have a great computer. The fact that you can turn off animations and other options allowing minimal effects on graphics.

BTW, the Light (Lite) edition will not work with any FTB since it's not compatible with forge at all.

Not everybody likes mucking about with manually installing and updating mods, which is why we use modpacks to begin with.

I'm currently using Mindcrack 8.0.1 which has Forge 515. Are there any potential problems with updating Forge to 518 such as other parts of the modpack working improperly or ceasing to work altogether?

:/ Actually read my post, what I said is completely true. You don't NEED to update your forge, you can just use a different version of optifine, whichever you find easier I suppose... for me it was changing my optifine.

Well any version of Optifine before the C variant is only compatible with Forge 499 or earlier. He came out with the C in order to allow people with the new mod updates that make use of Forge 515+ to use Optifine. I know the block update issue was introduced in Forge 516 and fixed in 518 (personal experience). As far as I know 515 won't work with Optifine C3 (going off what the creator says here). When he created C1 it was made to work with Forge 516+.

If you have tested 515 and it works, then maybe he is just doing a little CYA in saying use 518+.

the page where I downloaded it said C3 works with Forge 5something to 516. I downloaded it and lo and behold it works! before doing that I couldnt create any new worlds as I'd just get crash reports.
