Hello,
i'm working on setting up FTB infinity 1.4.1 and im running into an issue with setting myself up as op and setting the server to whitelist. i tried modifying the ops.json (overwritten on load) and adding ops.txt (suggested somewhere, found via google, ignored on load) neither work. I know your are supposed to use /op "username", but its a catch 22. you dont have permission to run the command, so you cant get permissions to run the command....

entries in the whitelist.json seem to be ignored.

Everything is setup on ubuntu server 12.4 (same instance ive used for years to host small family server)

ive googled a fair amount and still cant seem to find the solution so im guessing it is something simple or maybe not a common problem?

thank you for your time

You really should want to use the commands to add or remove people from the white-list and ops list as they now require the UUID from users and a special syntax.

You can use commands in the terminal from the server use this to set the first op(probably wise to do yourself first). Just make sure you do it in the same screen/terminal(assuming you either have screens installed or for whatever reason a GUI) as your server is running.

If you don't know for sure: the server should have spit out a bunch when starting up if you can see this you are at the right place.

that you for the quick reply.
talk about a brain fart, I didn't even think of trying it in the terminal. I was logging in and trying, hence the "you don't have permission" loop.

have a good weekend!

I suspect it now works? Good, enjoy your weekend before people need the admin :p

I haven't tried yet, had to head into work. It's such a no brainer though, im sure it will be fine. That's what I get for trying to set things up w/o enough coffee :)

thanks again

I really like the fact that everyone always blame it on not enough coffee when I never in my life drank it. Makes me wonder if I would be more productive with or without it.

You can still blame it on the coffee. I remember the first time this happened to me. I had my head spinning for a good half hour till I figured out to use the terminal.

That reminds me of the first time I used Linux, it was horrible and I hated it.

And now I have a server running Linux (debian) and a laptop with 2 Linux distros (debian and ubuntu). How things change.
