What do the bound tools do then? (I mostly have just been playing with the sacrificial elements)

bound pickaxe is one such tool but trust me blood magic is kinda... OP well technically late game until you realize you dont have enough blood into your system and make mob farms just for you to get more blood

Really, because the only bound tool that I found on the wiki was the sword and that only does 13 attack damage. Pretty good in vanilla minecraft but not in comparison to some of the other mods.

Bound Blade swings for 13, and also applies a debuff that weakens the monster and causes them to drop blood shards which allow further progression. It can also be enchanted. Unless I'm missing something, it swings harder than anything else out there, including the Awakened Ichorium Sword (which makes up for it with aoe and soul modes)

To compare to Vanilla, a Diamond sword swings for 8 before enchants.

Blood Magic is a fantastic mod with a lot of esoteric, hard to get, completely OP stuff. Perfect for a magic mod.

Blood Magic is, IMO, the best new mod of 1.6. It looks kinda lame at first, but it's actually incredibly deep.

Blood Magic is awesome. I've only made a tier 2 altar, but so far I'm loving it. NO GUIS! Finally!

Eh, in my opinion the best new mod of 1.6.4 is Witchery. Yeah BM is awesome, but I enjoy summoning demons more than flying with blood particles flying behind me :P

Heh, it is the most deep magic mod, check other things like the rituals or the new potion system.
If you think the thread is messy, check the wiki articles made by MrVideogame.

Cool things in BM:
http://ftbwiki.org/Summoning
Demon summoning! Get a demon to do your bid. :)
http://ftbwiki.org/Teleposer
Best way to teleport blocks(And the player too) around the world.
http://ftbwiki.org/Bound_Armor_Creation
Bound Armor is like the Quantum Suit of Magic mods, it can get cool effects with sigil insertion.
http://ftbwiki.org/Alchemy
Alchemy, it can make better vanilla potions and certain secret potions than enable things like fli---, better discover by yourself ;)
http://ftbwiki.org/Spells
And the spell system, it can be really powerful if you use certain combinations.
Sigils like Phantom Bridge, Lava, Water, Void, Lights(Best lighting ever! :D) and my favorite, Air are great and unique.
It is great for early game if you can supply LP(Green Grove and Lava Crystals :D)

Update:
Spell system will get a rework!

There's some nice earlier stuff though. Sigil of the Fast Miner is quite useful, since it gives you Haste II as long as it's active. The lava sigil lets you place a lava source block anywhere, but costs a bit of LP.

I think my favorite sigils as of right now are the Air Sigil and the one that lets you not take fall damage.

I like Blood Magic, but to be perfectly honest, I haven't even build one of it's items/blocks, mostly because I don't really know where to start, and where to progress to...
ingame documentation would really be perfect for this, perhaps have a normal book in your hotbar, and if you prick yourself with that knife that's besides the book in your hotbar, your blood will get splat on that book and it'll transform into an ingame documentation book for Blood Magic

Blood magic is my favourite mod.
It's unique, has its own sense of 'difficulty' and is just a really nice theme to use.
It fits in with other mods and can interact with them on basic to advanced levels through things like the Lava Crystal.

Blood magic has demon summoning. And taming them. And raising an army of demons to go after more powerful eldritch creatures.

too bad it doesn't have a way to desummon them yet, so you'll have to slay your own friends just to get rid of them.... it still brings me to tears seeing Saice kill his little adorable one :(

Given that you can bleed them at an altar for LP (I think anyway, honestly haven't tested it) a Dagger of Sacrifice and a Blood Altar may be the intended desummoning mechanic. Just, ya know, more evil. Then again, I fuel my blood magic by chaining villagers in a cycle of endless suffering (ritual of regeneration + well of suffering), so my 'evil' meter may be miscalibrated.

from what I've heard the problem with adding ingame books for stuff like this is actually writing the books, which can be a huge endeavor

Blood magic offers a beautiful bounty of ways to go through Minecraft, and can offer arcane methods for most tasks. Power gen? Try the Lava for Lifepoints method. Armor? Why yes please! A full set of enchantable armor that doesn't degrade and sacrifices your stored LP in exchange for damage taken. Travel? Air sigil allows flight, and is fast enough that the terrain won't render under your feet.

Couple that with over two dozen rituals ranging from the mundane (summon a storm, change day to night) to the unbelievable (want a meteor? You can have one.....) there's a LOT that this mod gives to the player.

(and ingame documentation would be neat, but I'm happy that WayofTime is continuing to provide more and more content instead.)
