is it the right place to post a suggestion like this?

and is it possible? because i learned (the hard way) to make frequent backups of my SSP worlds and i believe that will be a nice feature to have to those people who have difficult with windows explorer not my case but i think will be a nice addition to an already great launcher...

Cheers people from brazil...

for the love of god, I'll be bumping this topic till this feature is added.
I am not very good at remembering to make a backup myself, so if for example you could set the launcher to make a backup everytime you close your minecraft window, that'd be awesome

you could also have some more options like having the launcher make a backup of the world you're playing every so often minutes, how many backups you want to keep of that world, where to save them, what specific things to save like world, or screenshots, or configs or just the whole folder.

I just had the game hang, and suddenly I couldn't remember how long it had been since I "saved and quit" as I'd been letting it run, so ore could process, and my energynet could get some stored charge, the scrap could build up, a few things like that...

Absolute panic.

Course, the next step after asking for singleplayer backups, is to have server backups included in the package too....

that's usually my problem, that I am so into playing the game, that when I stop for the day, I just forget about making backups.
but it'd still be a huge pain if your last backup was from yesterday, and this day you did many things, but the game crashes in the evening and you lose all your data.
an hourly backup would be perfect for that.

I think we've decided on a yes for this idea, now we need to go bug the launcher devs! :p

Although, what about hard drive space (with big saves), and lag from the file transfer limit of drives? Could make the game stutter.

yay, I'm so happy to hear :)
to be honest, I have no idea on how to code, so I am just doing some guess work here.
what you could do is have a few options available. one option would be to make a save of the worlds everytime you exit minecraft, this could be the standard backup function for people who like to do backups, but don't really need them.
then you could have a bit of a manual backup that'd be a button on the pause screen (when you press ESC ingame) that button would say something in the life of "make a backup of this world" this is for people who pause out of the game, and can do a simple 1-click backup of the world they're currently playing. the last backup option would be the timed backup, that creates a backup every so many minutes, that what you've set it to. the first 2 options you can choose what things to backup. if you want to backup just the world, or configs, or screenshots or just the whole .minecraft folder. but with the 3rd option you can only backup your world and nothing else (to save on some lag)

like I mentioned at first, this is just some guessing work I'm doing here, but this is what I was thinking of

Actually changing Minecraft itself is very different to the launcher. That would require an actual mod for Minecraft. Don't know if the launcher devs are willing to go that far at that point.

On the other ideas, a backup after you close the game is possible, as far as I know. Doing a manual backup could be a problem if the game auto-saves during the backup, which could theoretically happen.
