So on a private server we just started a new world, go out about a hundred blocks, and this is what we find. :O

What you should do is install UgoCraft and use that to build one of those big old Oil pumps, just for the look of it.

I am just still in awe, that's the biggest one I've ever seen. I wonder how lucky we are to find one of those near spawn. xD

I hate to disappoint you, but this is just a normal-sized oil well that happened to generate atop a tree. The oil flows down the leaves and spreads over a large area. Inside the pillar there is only a one block thick column of oil source blocks.

Although the height of the well should mean that it is fairly large. Go check out the oil bulb, as it is also a good way to find good resources.

Yeah the oil geyser's in those forests are really deceiving. I had one taller than that that went all the way to bedrock in my last world it was crazy.

The height is counted from the highest top-most solid block. And for some reason EBXL leaves are considered solid. So the geyser is only a couple blocks tall.

Ah, ouch. On the bright side, easy oil to start with so an easy power source.
