I have an older Acer, that I thought would be perfect to run as a server for Mindcrack.
Only 2 people play on the server, my son and I. We don't use Mystcraft or Portalgun.
We are experiencing allot of "jumping" (Where I don't see my son actually move but then a few minutes later he jumps to his proper position) and terrain not updating, or even loading at all. There are a few dozen other little things that make me question the overall performance of the machine as well.
Here is the Dxdiag of the machine I wanted to use:
Operating System: Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.130104-1431)
System Manufacturer: Acer
System Model: AcerPower FH
BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 3326MB RAM
Page File: 783MB used, 5867MB available
---------------
Display Devices
---------------
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT
Chip type: GeForce 9800 GT
Display Memory: 1904 MB
Dedicated Memory: 497 MB
Shared Memory: 1407 MB
Now I had debated on putting Linux on the machine, and using it as a file share for my son and I as well. But I wasn't sure if that would help, also I have no idea how to run a Minecraft server from Linux.
And I only mention it as I am willing to go to that level to fix and smooth out the performance so he and I can play.
So I guess after all that, my basic questions are:
are the specs listed above okay for a Mindcrack server?
Would I be get a better performance out of the whole thing by changing or adding anything to the above?
Would a Linux OS (Most likely Mint or Ubuntu) handle this better?
