i used to play ultimate alot around 2012/2013, really liked it, i've tried a couple other FTB packs since then, but none have really had an enjoyable balance... unleashed was too easy, and now i'm trying resurrection which is just... well, unplayable... and though it claims to be based on ultimate, it's not recognisable to me, the balance is much different.. gregtech in ultimate was quite well balanced for my liking, but resurrection... have to make wire cutters, hammer, plates to make copper cable... ugh, not to mention, i am yet to even find any copper or gems after a couple hours playing (broken map gen i guess)

are there any other new packs with updated mods that aim to replicate ultimate, or just happen to have a very similar feel?

thanks

Ultimate was sorta a kitchen sink pack right?

Infinity is probably the best bet. It's the new KS pack.

not sure what that term means...
but , one problem i have with the pack, when i used it in i think.. unleashed, it was really overpowered, would quickly make it pointless to advance in any other packs content.. you could make a much faster flying.. thing than an adv electric jetpack, much cheaper, and have it recharge insane amounts of energy very quickly.. and the forged tools, with redstone/lapis etc addons were also really powerful, i recall having a hammer that would smash a 3x3 cube out of the ground, pulverise everything within it more efficiently than a pulverizer (as in it would give way more bars per ore), and automatically smelt it... basically making it pointless to advance with tech and machines... have they balanced that stuff any better now?

theres also a few things i did like about it... the axes & brownstone were nice but overall just way too overpowered

Kitchen sink pack is a pack that has everything for everyone.

Resurrection is the new Ultimate. It's not recognizable because Gregtech is much different now, and Gregtech is the core mod of the pack so you'll have to get used to it. If you're not comfortable with it you might as well be playing Ultimate over again... or Unhinged.

i got the impression that it's unplayable at the moment?.. i played for about 3 hours, didnt find any gems, or copper... which were both really big in ultimate... and copper should be abundant
i assumed that the map generator isn't very functional at the moment, and at the very least not generating copper.. also got some rather large map glitches, so that's a thing also

If you want large allround pack that includes Gregtech then I would suggest TPPI. The main difference from other packs is that it balances out all of the mods in the pack against each other, meaning that you more or less can use any mod you like without feeling it is too OP or too weak compared to the rest.

Yes IC2 and GT needs plates and cables for everything now. Very early on you manually cut and hammer these out, but machines to help with this are available as early as in the GT bronze age, as well as in IC2. Just start automating it and it is actually a cool thing IMO, after all you can hardly make advanced machines and circuitry by throwing ingots and planks onto a table. And TPPI even OreDict(and make it so only one kind exist ingame) these plates to be compatible with other mods like RC, so you can make Iron Plates on a Rolling Machine.
