NVidia OpenGL error 8. Wtf?

After upgrading to windows 8.1, convincing my pre 1.7.10 modpacks to work with Java 8, suddenly my visits to the nether are interrupted frequently with an NVidia error dialog that closes Minecraft.

"An OpenGL Error (8) has occurred".

Since when did this become a thing?

Unfortunately there is nothing anyone here can do to help you. You are not alone tho! Do a quick google search on it and it will point you to the GeForce forums. Consensus is pointing to a problem with nvidia drivers.

Quick edit: Apparently someone has had success reverting back to driver 347.09

I had exactly the same issue, and read various forums which all pointed to nVidia drivers etc...

I finally found one suggestion that worked - its a problem with IE-11 in Windows 8.1

I have stopped using IE to do searches and things on my other screen, I only use Chrome now and everything seems good.

I've not had the OpenGL error for 2 weeks since my change.
