I'm playing on the ftb infinity evolved skyblock modpack and I was trying to setup a good nuclear reactor to get plutonium... I can't get talonfire to work so I found another site. I don't understand what everything means. Is this a good setup? Thank you in advance!

I must admit that, personally, even if I wanted plutonium, I would build EFF 4 reactors and simply scale out if I needed more.

But, really, if plutonium is required and EUs out are entirely secondary then there are two things that come into play:
* A "plutonium breeder" is a reactor that has lots of fuel rods. The space in a reactor is limited so you have only that much space for cooling components so you want the rods to be as inefficient as possible as efficient rods, in addition to more power, produce more heat.
* That said, manual fiddling with a reactor to change rods (correctly) is a pain. So homogeneous rods is an important consideration. If all the rods in the reactor are the same type it is quite easy to setup automatic extraction - using ME / EIO / Thermal Dynamics etc - of depleted rods, and insertion of new rods automatically.

On these fronts, the presented reactor is pleasingly inefficient, and has loads of fuel rods - 23 in fact. What I find less pleasing are the different rod types, which means the reactor cannot be automatically refueled, and manual refueling could be disastrously error prone.

ok thank you! I'll look into this.

Would something like this be better for plutonium?

It has low efficiency but power is really not what I need.

With this design you are getting 27 fuel rods through the system every reactor cycle. Which is 10,000 seconds (2.8ish hours). So, 27 tiny piles of plutonium every 2.8 hours.
Additionally, it can be automated. Nice and simple.

good! I will try this out and might add another reactor if I see the need for it. Thank you for your help. ;)

has some good designs for breeders, including this one by @MigukNamja :

150D020D0D020D0D020D020D0D020D0D020D020D0D020D0D020D0D0D0D020D0D020D0D020D020D0D020D0D020D020D0D020D0D020D15

Which packs in 36 rods, so you nett 36 tiny plutonium every cycle.

I will mention
150D0C0D0C0D0C0D150D140D140D140D140D0C0D030D0C0D030D0C0C0D030D0C0D030D0C0D140D140D140D140D150D0C0D0C0D0C0D15

Even though it only produces 16 tiny plutonium per cycle, its super efficient, and if I wanted more plutonium I'd just build more reactors.

If your looking for the fastest way to make plutonium, You will not go any faster than this design using no less than 42 fuel rods producing a decent 360 EU/t.

How do you automate that ?

With two filters on IO Conduits and different insertion times. First filter pulls out the spent single cell fuel rods and replaces them with new ones and an hour later, the second filter pulls out the spent dual rods an replaces them with new ones.

OK so you can get 42 tiny plutonium per cycle
