Does anyone even read the 'post mods for creation here' thread? You'd think that thread would be a hot discussion area. But instead all the feedback I got for my latest idea is: "beautiful'

Seriously, not even a sentence of feedback...

Well, now that that's over with, I would like to see a show of hands on who actually frequents that thread and discussions pertaining to it in some amalgamated way. Thank you

[my thoughts]
I think the main reason for this topic is not really to discuss possible mods, but rather to post things that you think are cool and you would like to have it.
The problem I see is that the fewest (is that even a word?) mod developers are just sitting around "hmm what could I code" so that most of these ideas just get no attention.
[/my thoughts]

If you read between the lines, it's kinda there to keep those types of threads from cluttering the rest of the forums. I've run a LOT of forums and you have to reduce clutter to cultivate a good community. It doesn't devalue the points made in that section, but read through it. Most of the ideas are sky high or already handled by an existing mod. Trust me, folks who find good ideas there won't be ignored.

But you don't have to take my word for it. ^_^

Hmm, okay seems legit.

But red, wouldn't it be a better course of action to make a separate forum portion for mod suggestions so that ideas won't just be forgotten after the page they were on is no longer a recent page?

Or is there some financial mumbo-jumbo I'm not seeing?

I'm not affiliated with FTB in any formal capacity. I'm just speaking from the perspective of someone who has built & moderated forums off and on for years. Plus honestly, having lots of sub forums leads to nothing. Like no activity. Pull up any forum for any interest and look at the activity dates. The forums that over subdivide either don't have any real activity in those areas or lose activity in the whole forum.

You don't want to over Splinter your audience is what I'm saying. It's a balancing act that is easy to pull off if you've done it for a while.

@OP: Just your title: Stop right there. If I ever hear anyone say "Not to be rude BUT" whatever comes next is (99.99999999999999999999 percent of the time) rude.

Short Answer: No.
Long Answer: No, no they don't.

Long thread's don't get read past their 1st and last page plus people don't expect a suggestion section to have any good ideas.

Okay, thanks for the input. So I guess mod idea suggestions are not really looked at here? Got it.

well, in my opinion I've alot of ideas for mods, which I know will never happen... so reading very good ideas of others, who I know have also a low chance of happening just makes me more sad :(

Just talk with mod devs. Pretty much every idea I've had has been incorporated into mekanism

Tbh: Most mod ideas simply suck. Flowerchild sums it up nicely:
99% of ideas are crap. When your mom told you "there's no such thing as a bad idea", she was lying to you so you wouldn't feel stupid.
The 1% of good ideas are usually overlooked, especially since most mod devs already have lots of their mod mapped out anyways, they don't need any more ideas.

Good point

Then again, I really helped out @Zein Eizoku with his necromancy mod. BTW, anyone hear any news on whether or not he's still working on it?
And then there's the Flesh Craft. And also Stained Glass, Cubic Chunks and Colored Lighting.

I do think though that ideas for the creation of a mod are better than ideas for addition to mods usually. Maybe we can have a section for new ideas and a section for ideas that have a certain ratio of likes to dislikes in a poll.

This. This is why the thread tends to get ignored, which can be a bit of a letdown when there truly are good ideas.

And I remember being on the BTW forums when he said that. Lots of entertainment that day. :p

I guess, if you really want a developper to read your post and do your idea, the ultimate way is to be a developper and be motivated enough. The man-power is kinda low, ideas are cheap but execution is much more expensive.

With enough motivation you can become dev.

That's the problem, I get sidetracked really easy. One day I'm working on project A, project B the next. I'm lucky I've been entertained by working on my modpack as long as I have.

And while I want to be a programmer one day, I'm not too sure I'll have the drive to do it. I really wish this wasn't true, but I guess I could always write manga-like comic books.

I've seen a decent number of good mod ideas and a ton of crap on that thread, but as with many mod developers, I'm already overflowing with ideas -- it's implementation that makes the difference.

Since you want analysis, I'll go to that thread and write some.

that's also often the case... most mod developers start making mods because they're overflowing with ideas, they already have enough ideas themselves and don't really need any more
there are some mod developers who just started out, and take suggestions, but that'll quickly change when they themselves start getting more ideas aswell

if I could code I'd totally be developing a mod, most probably a mod that'd add/change certain items/blocks/mechanics from other mods, mostly because those are the most ideas that I have
