Noob looking for some info...

So I started a new world and got onto gathering my resources when I came across a totem pole. Just a few blocks away I found what I can only describe as a tomb. I began to remove the roof in order to kill the mobs inside so I could take a look for some goodies (only having a wooden sword I would not have stood a chance against Zombies, Skeletons and two spawners...lol). Anyway I heard a digital sound coming from the tomb and I started getting hit by bolts of pink electricity from a small white orb looking thing that flew out of the tomb. Being new to the game I tried to take a closer look but kept getting zapped. I died but after getting all my stuff back the little orb was no where to be seen (or heard).

Does anyone know what the orb is? Also what is the totem pole for?

Thaumcraft Barrow was the 'tomb' you found, they have 2 spawners in them and also contain a dark node that spawns wisps (the orb that shot lightning at you). The totem pole was most likely the new obsidian totem from thaumcraft also, it is used in some advanced magic later on.

That is a wisp from Thaumcraft 3.

both the orb and the totem are from the mod thaumcraft, as well as the tomb

both are thaumcraft, the "tomb" will spawn wisps, which is what killed you, and the totems are used in advanced magic later on or for decoration (who doesnt want a creepy totem outside their house?)

thaumcraft is a tough one, but its a blast once you learn the ropes
