Hey, small question. Do you guys know if there is a bee species that won't produce ANY comb at all?

I want a specie that will be used solely for its "effect" trait (like explorer or something else). If I can get it to not produce any comb, and with the x1 fertility rate, than the apiray + piping system will somewhat be smaller (no need to get iron pipes to channel combs into a void pipe).

I know there is some bees like Austere that won't produce their speciality comb unless being in there right environment; but I think they still produce their normal comb don't they?

thanks a lot!

all bees produce combs.

someone said if environment isnt suited for bee to work, it will still apply its effect. if that`s true you can utilize that with no pipes involved at all.

yeah, I saw that putting a jungle flower trait, wihtout giving the flower for the bees, for example, will still let the effect run. But it is supposed to be fixed in the next patch or so.

if its gonna be fixed, then piping+filter+void is the only option.

the goal is to get those bees for a specific effect without having to worry about production disposal (more compact system). So the firework trait will get "overwrite" with explorer, heroic or something else. Need to test, but this should be perfect if what is said on the wiki is accurate.

For explorer or the bee xp setup I found rock bees the best as there more or less ideal with there standard traits, just add explorer, void or ender chest the combs.

I have breeded a variety of those celebrity bees that has all the ideal traits. From now on, when I want a buff or debuff bee somewhere, I just need to innoculate the desired effect and it is good to go.
I know it seems overkill while rocky bees could do the job, but the fact that I don't need to void the product is making the setup simple (If the no work = no effect thing is fixed in upcoming updates). In large arrays of apiaries, having a iron pipes to get all undesired product is puting that into a 2x3 setup, while no comb makes it into a 2x2; it makes a difference in some rooms where I don't have much space.

One other thing: In 1.5.2 one of the bee mods (I think it is Magic Bees) adds a kind of jar, which you can fill with drones. They will live their normal lifespan and produce just the effect during that time. This makes it easier to spread an effect over your whole base: Give the bees in question max fertility and max territory. The central Alveary (or Apiary) then produces always 3 more drones than it needs itself. Spread those to the effect jars in question (e.g. with AE or Item Tesseracts).
