NewDireWorld20 - Problems with merging two modpacks

I enjoy DireWolf20 greatly, his taste in mods is quite good and the builds on his YouTube videos are impressive. However, I am not an especially technical minded guy and I loath creating builds of such detail. As such, the New World Modpack caught my attention much more because of two things. The sheer amount of different oddities that were introduced, and Millienaire; it puts vanilla villagers to shame, and it's existed since long before them.

However, with Direwolf20's new 1.5 modpack he's added many new mods and some of those mods I'd like to play with but still keep things like Millenaire, Meteors, Pet Bats, and all of that. So, being somewhat knowledgeable with computers I did this.

First I merged Direwolf with New World, more specifically copied Direwolf20 files into New World and replaced what would conflict. I then ran the changed New World pack (it offered to update, obviously I said no) and got a Forge error screen showing a list of duplicate mods. Seeing this I hit 'Print Screen' and copied the image into Paint so I could refer back to it, then edited the files with the FTB tools and disabled all the files that seemed to be older versions.

After running it again I did not get the Forge error of duplicates, but now instead I have found that this error comes up.

I'm inexperienced in these issues, but my guess is that somewhere two mods are listed as having the same ID for two different blocks and that is causing the two to not cooperate. The thing is I would go through the process of combing through these IDs myself, but I don't know what programs would be needed or where the lists are located. I'm not going to be able to program, but data entry and management I wouldn't have a problem with.

Helping me with this probably won't help the community in general, it's more of a private endeavor and I don't foresee myself releasing this as another pack for FTB. Maybe some YouTube series, but that's a BIG if. However, I would like to be able to play with all of these mods installed without having to re-download every single one individually. But if that's the path I need to take, so be it.

Yes, depending on how many mods you're adding and how many items those mods have, it can get very annoying relaunching each time for every conflict.

If you load up the base pack, you can obtain an IDMap dump (link to some dated instructions I've posted of this before) of what the stuff in the pack uses. You can then run through the configs for the mods you're adding and use the gaps. I'd recommend going that route and keeping everything as-is in the pack to maximize (though not guarantee) forward-compatibility with the pack. Alas, that'll still probably end up being a pain in the butt (you can see some of the additional fun in that thread in fact).

Thank you for the new information, though forward-compatibility may not be the most important thing seeing as I'll have to update (if I ever) the pack myself rather than use FTB's updater. I'm basically creating a whole new pack, forward-compatibility is going to be all on me and for that reason alone I'm probably going to get it working and not touch it ever. That is, if I get it working.

Yup there's your problem right there. Easy to fix, it's just an ID conflict. To add to what Vauthil is saying, you'll always find ID conflicts in the crash report in roughly that same spot. Also, be sure to check that ID dump over really carefully. You can't start the game with conflicting block IDs, but you can start the game with conflicting item IDs which leads to recipe weirdness.

Block IDs are all sorted out. Thank Vauthil for the help. Thankfully a lot of the mods in DireWolf20 1.5 are updated versions of mods in New World so I could disable and ignore them. ExtraBiomesXL doesn't really need to be there if Biomes O' Plenty is on so I disabled that, so now to add the trees from Biomes O' Plenty to Treecapitator (or just disable it? Nah, I don't like wasting time with trees so let the massacre commence)

Aye, I can confirm that. If I felt like it I would go into item IDs but I don't think I'd bother since I'm not going to put it up as a Third Party Pack and when dumping IDs I couldn't see item IDs being used in the list. In fact I couldn't see block IDs above 4000 something, though I could see well into the 100,000s when dumping New World IDs. Odd.

If people start asking me to put this little project up for others to use, maybe I'll ask around the modding community and seek permission. It would help find any possible bugs that I may not run into by myself, keeping in mind that I don't usually go for very long in a world; usually I just do enough that I wouldn't have to worry about food or monsters and then start a new world.
