Im new to linux and cant get the ftb launcher to run i have the jar file downloaded through the terminal and also the mod pack but i cant get it to run and i have no clue what to do i have linux mint 16.
right click on the ftb jar file press properties, permissions and select allow executing this file as program, you would have to do the same for vanilla minecraft
You also have to right click the .jar after giving the OS permission to execute it(What andrew explained), then select OpenJDK runtime. Keep in mind Linux does NOT come preinstalled with Java, so make sure java is installed. You can find it in the repository for easy installation.
linux mint does come preinstalled with java, just use open with ( also you can set default application by selecting other application and the set as default)
