new server

Hey guys. So I decided to make a minecraft ftb unleashed server for my friends and I to play on. After reading a bunch on the forums, I've decided to rent a dedicated server instead of going to creeperhost or any of those other GSPs. Now, my question is, are there any guides or instructions somewhere on how I could set up this new server? I'm planning on buying the server tomorrow and installing either CentOS or Ubuntu server on it. I just need some help on getting my server from the point of buying it to the point of putting FTB Unleashed on it and installing mo creatures mod on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. okay I read all of it and I understand all the parts about setting up the server now, thanks a ton for the info! My only question is, after you start the minecraft server, how can I see the server command prompt?

Once you start the server, I assume your using SSH to connect. You can create a Screen session in it which can be safely deattached and reattached without closing the server.

last question. When I buy the server, what OS should I have them install on it? Which Linux distro I mean

I would personally choose Ubuntu Server 13.04. Ubuntu is a very popular OS, help won't be hard to get as long as you ask nicely and are willing to learn.

I like centos and i just love the yum feature, however any os you choose you will become accustom to ad therefor like it more.
