Hey all,
I'm pretty new to mine craft and mods in general and I had a few questions I was hoping someone could answer.
First off I have played just vanilla minecrat for a few days to get the hang of it all but I really didn't like the fact that there was no mini map or map in general and the armor/weapons were kind of weak so I set out to find some mods.

Then I found this site and thought ok I'll start out with FTB Monster mod pack. But Now I'm kind of lost and confused. I spent some times checking out all the mods in the pack and the webb site for them to see what they were and how to use them but now I'm even more confused. I know I would like to set up a quarry with the lazar drill thing . I know I would like to make a power suit so I don't die to lava and mobs as much :)

So my question(s) about FTB Monster are...
#1 Is there a way in game to see how to make everything and see the recipe for all the mods? I know there is some built in GUI or something but I can not quite figure it out. Like how do I see the map? I have a mini map but what key opens the big map and what are its features? Is there some in game guide in game for all this? If not is there some guide out of game for all this?

#2 Would I be better off doing all this on a server. I saw many great looking servers that I could play on but I'm not sure. They seem to be more focused on pvp and towns and such. I just want to make a base and get some OP armor and weapons and set up some cool quarry's and such. I just want to adventure and survive :). I might want to try other systems on this mod pack as well.
Would single player or a server be better for me??

#3 last question I swear. Dose the world regenerate itself? Like If I was to join a server then wouldn't all the minerals be pretty mined out or dose the world regen over time? How about on single player dose it regen there? I know mobs keep coming back from some mob spawned thing but yea.

Well that's about it . Like I said I really love the look and feel of minecraft and I would just like to try and enjoy this great looking mod pack and maybe other mod packs like Blood and Bones or whatever:)

1) Hit "R" when hovering over an item to see its recipe, "U" to see its usage. "M" tends to be for a large map, but it varies. Make sure you check the MC controls menu to be sure as well as to fix any conflicts.

2) Single Player would probably be better since you're learning, plus servers tend to restrict things.

3) Not without enabling retro gen in a config file, I just don't remember which.

If you need specific information on certain items, blocks, or mods, check the official FTB wiki. We have quite a few things documented and are constantly updating.

The only useful tip I can give you is - if you don't mind or like watching gameplays, the best way to slowly but surely get used to most of the mods, is watching a modded minecraft series on youtube! But make sure that you're watching someone who knows what they're doing - I would highly recommend the Direwolf20 Singleplayer Series (on the Direwolf20 channel itself - just look it up, you'll find it :p), the one he's currently doing is the biggest tutorial you'll get out there - the dowside is that it it a big tutorial. A bunch of 30 minutes episodes might bore you - if that's the case, you could always take a look at the official FTB Wiki or watch various 'getting started' videos about the pack you're playing in, and progress from there. :D

In addition, if you want a silly series that has people that know what they are doing pretending they arent to give you inspiration or ideas watch the Yogscast :p

Hello, im new to FTB and i just wanted to ask if there was any way if i can turn a modpack (singleplayer version) to a modpack (server version). I say this because i really want to play with my friends on a server, but the modpack needs to be server version. So if there is anyway anyone can tell me how to do this. Please say so! And also, can i give FTB the modpack that i want, and they can turn it into a modpack for servers??????

@Partyandy There's no real difference, as far as I know. Just setup a server and you're good to go!

EDIT: You don't necessarily need to setup the server, you can also join a public one - as far as the server you're trying to join is hosting the same modpack you're playing in. :p

1. NEI (not enough items) is the gui with all the items in the game. If you push "e" to open your inventory it should be there. If nothing is showing up, push "o" to activate it.

There's a search bar for you to look up any item by name. If you want to see the crafting recipe for an item, left click it (if you're in recipe mode) or mouse over it and push "r" if you're in cheat mode. To switch between the modes go into the options menu in the GUI :)

2. Start in SSP. Playing on a server you can get help from the community but there's usually restrictions and rules to follow.

3. The world doesn't naturally regenerate, if you mine out all the resources in an area you'll need to go further afield to find stuff. You should see the horrific destruction I cause to the landscape on most of my worlds ;)

Well it does, it's not a server where you go to minecraft.net and download it, and set it up. I went to a place called Aternos and set up the EASY server there. And i want to play a modpack on there, but it wont let me. So i told Aternos, and bla bla bla, and now im at the point where they will put the modpack in the server, but the modpack isnt server version. Its singleplayer version. So please help me someone!

@Partyandy So you're problem is in setting up the server - I see. Being honest with you, I didn't actually set up a FTB server myself, so, the only thing I can recommend is for you to look up on youtube tutorials that might help solving your problem. I might be mistaken, but isn't there on the launcher itself a 'Download Server' button?

@ThomazM I'm not sure if there is a button like that on the launcher, but i will see and try it.
And what server did you use?
And being honest with you, Aternos isnt really famous, so i doubt there is any videos. And plus its German, so if there is a video, its most likely in german.

Yes i know, not all modpacks have serve versions. The modpack that im trying to play, doesnt have a server version. Thats why im asking all these questions. And i have been experimenting with the launcher...and yes, i can put all the mods ii want in there, and download server. But heres the next problem i'm having. The ONLY reason why i created a free (no survey) server on Aternos, is because the normal setup to create a server was too hard for me. But if ANYONE AND I MEAN ANYONE! Can tell me how to do this setup, please do. A tutorial would help that lasts about 10 mins.
And that you for the fast replies @ThatOneSlowking and @ThomazM

I would agree with all that.
But you'll never learn anything if you don't experience it for yourself, so make sure you watch a tutorial and experience the mod.
So, I would start like this:
1. Watch a tutorial fully/partially on a certain mod.
2. Launch FTB and fiddle with the mod.
3. Watch the rest/other tutorials and then get started!

I honestly cant imagine how confused I would be if I jumped right into FTB monster. I would suggest you start a single player creative map, watch a few videos and experiment. I think the first mods you should learn about is thermal expansion 3, thaumcraft 4, and Tinker's construct.

I also suggest MineFactory Reloaded (MFR) if you learned everything you can about TE.

He's on Monster, he should obviously start by cutting down a rainbow tree & then wandering into a Roguelike dungeon. :p
Starting modded MC for the 1st time can be overwhelming. Youtube can be your friend, but pay attention to the dates! Any video more than a couple months old has the potential to be seriously outdated. Some mods are well documented, others no useful information can be found. Some are easy to understand & use, others are complicated & may blow up in your face if you do the slightest thing wrong. Knowing which mod a machine comes from can go a long way in figuring out how to set it up so it actually works. NEI is your friend when you need a recipe or want to browse through the things you can make with a particular mod. The variety of worldgen in monster is also insane. Waila is there to help by telling you what you are looking at.

I think you need about 10 keyboards to map all the hotkey controls added by different mods, so figuring out which ones you actually want to use is a good step once you have an idea of what is available

Couldn't agree more - creating a creative world to play recklessly with a mod you're trying to get used to is really the way to go. :D - Test, play, see yourself what every machine does - if something explodes, it doesn't matter. :p
