Hi guys,

So I've been very disenchanted by modded minecraft over the last year. I really loved it and I put in so much effort to try and enjoy it again, but the new modpacks just really haven't cut it in terms of flexibility and difficulty. Nearly every player uses the same system for power and the whole system seems to just have become far more linear. Are there no modpacks that are going to come out that have recipes edited or some other factor in them to at least attempt to balance all forms of advancement? I believe I may just be missing the old style of playing, but I just remember that being so much more creative than it is nowadays, mostly because of the loss of Redpower (although I realise this has been replaced in a sense) and Soul Crystals and the death of Industrial Craft. I just miss making crazy dumb things like nuclear reactors in volcanoes ages away with a HS railway carrying power back and forth. End game just seems too ridiculous to me now and there's far too much end game gear. I guess I wish there was one end-game, and multiple paths to get to it; rather than lots of end-games each with their own path, some being better than others so everyone goes for one end-game first. I feel like modded minecraft has become less making crazy, useful things and more getting to end-game and creating crazy, pointless but fun things. That's not really my style sadly.

I guess what I'm wondering is whether there's people out there that feel like me other than the many friends I have who have been disenchanted in the same fashion, and whether there may be a breath of fresh air like Resurrection was supposed to be? I really do miss this brilliant game, I tire of others as they just don't have the same potential for ridiculous creations.

Thanks for reading.

The great thing about a modded game like minecraft if you are free to play it however you want. You are not forced to play any particular pack or any mod within a pack. If you miss making a huge nuclear reactor inside a volcano, go do it! Nothing says you have to follow the same path as everyone else.

I realise that, but it's just not the same. Don't worry though, new Industrial Craft has just been announced and that might reignite my interest

This is really similar to my issue with every game I play. I will play the game for awhile. Often times I won't even defeat it. Once I feel I have experienced what I want to experience in the game I will stop playing it. I will return if there is new content released. Just long enough to experience the new content.

That system creates a never ending cycle that doesn't ever keep me playing games for long. I even treat Minecraft the same way.

The best thing I could do would be to break that cycle. I know this yet never do it. I continue to do things they way I have through the past iterations. I need to start setting challenges for myself. Forcing me to try a different play style or path from the get go.

I did try that awhile back I guess. I forced myself to not develop tech. I could purchase simple tech based products from the other player on the server I was on. I couldn't use any thing that looked technological and used power. This was a vast departure from my usual play style. Usually I used almost exclusively the mods I felt were tech mods. I did enjoy it for awhile. Issues with the server provider eventually led to me dropping that world. I had progressed along what I consider to be the magic mods rather far.

I had a partially automated Botania version of the Minefactory laser drill. I was using golems a lot to automate things. It was actually going really well and was a rather enjoyable experience. I was going to do similar challenges after that. I got away from minecraft for a little bit and forgot about it though.

The challenges were originally going to be roleplaying ones. I would create a role and keep true to it. I am horrible at role playing of any sort so it is always a unusual and badly implemented experience for me. Still it works for me.

(This whole post was in the interest of providing you with ideas you might be able to use in your quest and to reinforce the statement of the user in the first quote.)

I have done similar @DeathOfTime. One playthrough I decided I was going to play vanilla+ blood magic, nothing else. This play through I am enamored with mekanism, a mod I have never touched before, and it is the central focus of my game. I also really love multi block structures and recently learned that Immersive Engineering has a lot of multi block machines that require heavy investment.

Some day though, there will be nothing left to experience. It reminds me of playing Diablo 3. I spent well over 5,000 in game hours since release and loved the game to pieces. I've had all of the classes in the "top 90% that they could be" and returned for each of the seasons to do the new content. Now, I don't even bother because I've been to that movie and watched the credits.
