Mojang has released a texture pack. https://minecraft.net/sv-se/article/try-new-minecraft-java-textures
You can download it if you want, but I'll give you a rundown of my opinion on them.
Most of the changes are good, I use Faithful 64 so it looks incredibly similar. What they've done is depixelate the textures, they don't look like 16 x 16 textures so much anymore, they all look smooth and less griddy textures. The only one I dislike is the Glass, which if it was connected texture would be great but its not so its horrible.
Another question? Will mod developers change their textures such as Ingots to match the new iron ingot/gold ingot textures?

Quick rundown, I haven't played with the textures myself yet though.
I actually think that glass with a connected texture still would look bad, because the diagonal lines don't seem to line up. However, as I haven't seen it in that way yet I may be wrong about that.

Diamond, gold and emerald have an attempt made to get 3d effects into the texture. This however pretty much failed and was probably a bad idea from the start as you don't know where the light source will come from when creating textures and you kind of need to know this if you want to draw something 3D like how he did.

Oak logs are drawn rather sharp well birch is the opposite of that. Normally I would say that difference is good but a complete change in style is stretching it a bit......

I like mossy cobble, except for the cobble texture itself. And mob spawners look great.

Generally speaking though I like the old textures more which is actually mostly because I dislike the smoothness of the new ones.

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.
Some of them are improvements, a few made me think I'd botched my graphics card. Some of them are just very, very blurry.

Overall its just 'meh' typical Mojang throwing a tonne of resources and hype at stuff that didn't really need fixing. At least with the resourcepack system its easy to customise stuff.

with a tonne of resources you mean 1 guy. Which is probably the reason the new textures aren't exactly stellar. Its just too much for 1 guy.

I probably wouldn't even know where to start if I where him.....

I actually like most of them, I like smoother textures. Just my personal preference. What I don't like is the new glass, and also the new diamond, gold, and emerald blocks. The leaves look fine alone, but in a tree they look a bit out of place. Outside of all those, I like the changes overall. My personal favorites are the new stone bricks and mossy cobblestone.

The Diamond, Gold, and Emerald block were never for building, but I like them as highlight blocks for say a wall or with an item frame in front of one.

That's right. But I just don't like using those even as highlight blocks, I prefer concrete blocks, or stained clay. Again, personal preference.

But now that every block gets a new texture its a perfect time to make them work as building blocks.

Also, you need those to create beacons (except for the diamond block one) to make beacons, yes you can use iron but not every vanilla player makes iron farms so it would be nice if the other blocks looked at least somewhat alright for the pyramid..
