New computer for ftb

I'm looking to make a new PC for my lil brother he plays ftb almost exclusively and I wanted to make him a custom PC for ftb but I am not sure what the price range would go so I came here for help it will be. Completely new build except for the case with I am having a friend custom build any help will be greatly be appreciated in getting this project done before the holidays the budget I'm trying to stay around is about $500

That excludes monitor and perpiherals, but has a powerful enough CPU and enough RAM to play some pretty hardcore packs, also wouldnt be too bad for 1080p gaming. Also it doesn't come with Windows, but Ubuntu is a decent alternative. Good Luck!
