Nether too hostile now?

Why is it- when I make a test world and screw around in creative- there always a nether fortress right outside the portal.

Yet when I play legit, its [bar one occasion] always a fair way out.​

(though the exploration challenge is pretty damn awesome. Good excuse to build a rail link)

The Nether (FTB Infinity on expert mode) is harder than it used to be, but frankly I enjoy the challenge.

Before going into the Nether, you need to prepare:

1. Get GOOD armour (I went full IC2 NANO with JetPack)
2. Fire resist potions, which drop from loot bags
3. Decent mellee weapon
4. Decent ranged weapon
5. Food

Plus, build a cobblestone 'fort' around your portal, keep a chest in it with flint/steel and 10 obsidian.

With half-way good gear, some prep work the Nether is quite survivable.

But going in with basic Iron armor and a weak weapon with no flight ability? Not these days lol.

I dunno I think you are over preparing there. I think the minimum gear is a set of iron.
But if you really want to be certain I guess over preparation is smart.

Without Lycanite's mobs or something like it, you don't REALLY need all that. Just turn your mob sounds up. Even on hard mode, mobs spawn far away or in easy render distance. I've only ever gotten into trouble with mobs when there's something that affects block mining. The Nether really isn't that dangerous. I have more trouble running around on my first night of a new world.

If you have B'o'P it really depends on the Biome.

Some Nether Regions are more hostile than others...
