So I'm building out some of the nether, especially around the portal. I know that if you sleep in a bed bad things happen. I know that water disappears...

Are there any other vanilla mechanics or modded mechanics that work differently in the nether than they do in the overworld that I should be concerned about? (if it helps narrow down the mod list I'm using 1.7.10 dw20 pack)

Also is the nether better for any particular mod or good something in particular more so than the over world? I know that nether bees are a thing but outside of that I don't know much that works particularly well in the nether in comparison.

If you are going to get into bees, there are some bees that will only work in the nether, so there's that.
Other than that, there's not much different that hasn't be said, other than the mobs that spawn there.

Natura adds a whole range of items to make it possible to have a "vanilla'esque" experience in the nether, without being dependant on the overworld. You should check them out. For example the Obelisk which is a "bed" for the Nether. But it also supplies various foods, wood and lets you craft stuff out of Netherrack and stuff that would otherwise require overworld materials(like nether versions of levers, hoppers, glass etc.).

Here's something i've always wondered but been way to indolent to actually try.

What happens if one uses a tesseract to pump water into the nether then a BC floodgate thingummy to try and place source blocks that way?

Considering that when ice melts the source block also disappears I would not be surprised if the source blocks just disappear but I have not tested it and I wouldn't mind it when someone tests it and give the anwser

Melting ice or placing down a source block with a bucket are the only ways to get water sources in the Nether in vanilla survival so those are the only ones specifically made impossible. You can place down source blocks if you have the actual water block as an item, even in survival game mode. If a mod doesn't disable creating water blocks with a machine in the Nether it should work but it's up to the author of the mod to prevent it and uphold the vanilla lore of the Nether.
