hi everyone

this is the first time I'm playing minecraft/FTB unleashed 1.6.4 and I'm having a blast experimenting. Today I went to the nether for the first time but there I have a serious problem. The game is... playable... but very dangerous in that area. Every few seconds the game locks up for a second or two. I dont have any lag or freeze problems on the overworld only in the nether (when i get back from the nether it's on the overworld too, then I have to close and restart then the game runs fine again)

I've been trying to turn off things like vertical sync, clouds off, fast rendering, max fps, rendering short distances but nothing appears to help. Does anyone know what I have to do to fix this?

running on a windows 7 64bit, I5-2500, 8GIG ram, 760GTX.

thanks everyone!
bye

Try and hit F3 and then go to the nether. Look in the top right corner. If the memory indicator is constantly going to max, lagspike, down a bit, ramp up to max, lagspike repeat, then you most likely need to allocate a little more memory to your game in the launcher.
2GB should be enough, but if it isn't you can try with 3GB. But DONT! give it any more than that.

hmm it goes from 78% to over 90% (like 95% then it freezes a sec and drops back down to 70ish%) of allocated memory. A silly question... but how do I allocate more memory to it...

You can do it from the options tab of the FTB Launcher. There is a slider that you can slide to the right to give it more RAM.

If you have never done it before, you are most likely just running the game on 1GB. To run it with higher than 1GB you will also need to install 64bit java(and most likely uninstall the 32bit java).

oh well that was a hell of a lot easier to adjust then I would have tought. I just did so. And behold the nether runs flawless... it now goes to around 60% of 2gig and works like a charm. Thank you both for the help! and I kind of feel euhm... a bit stupid now but oh well :D

and I was indeed running on 1gig. I do have the 64 bit java tough

I'm impressed. Most people crash even before getting to the main menu when running the new packs on 1 GB of RAM.
