nether fortresses

ok so i have search and search for a total of 15 hours of so. so i give up, can any of these nifty little mods help me find one? i have used the mini map to help me with my sense of direction but thats about it..... i have search in a west/east notion and nothing... i dont even know what i am looking for... any tips would be very helpful.

Perhaps the maze/ore maps of Twilight Forest could help? You'd probably have to blank it often, but any square-ish cavities would be a dead giveaway.

i was wondering what those square shadowed things were.... but still. i have passed many of those square and have dug strait up and down but found nothing yet....

I'm not referring to Rei's Minimap. I don't know what it's interpreting to come up with such patterns. i'm referring to a specific sort of item from the Twilight Forest. The maze maps are of your current depth rather than of the surface, designed for helping to navigate the dimension's mazes. Its upgrade will also paint ore deposits around your depth on the map. If THAT map starts showing squarish shapes, then it's probably a Nether Fortress. It costs resources to blank out for use in another area though...

You need a token from one of its mazes to craft one, though, and that competes with the very useful Uncrafting Table which also requires one.

ah, i c what you mean. wow, u werent kidding about how expensive it is to make the map 0_0. sigh, no choice but to keep on searching and hope to get lucky.....

so much searching just to make a silly blast furnace....

You can locate them with Rei's in cave mode. You should be able to see the bridges and square rooms with it. The diagonal squares are lava flowing over flat surfaces, don't confuse them with straight squares of fortresses.

You can also use the compressor to turn 3 (I think) netherrack into one nether brick.

You'll still want to find a fortress eventually though for easy blaze rods!

Also, a jetpack makes searching the nether a LOT easier. Just don't run out of fuel...

right, i been using cave mode for the mini map. very useful thanks. OMG the jetpack! great idea lol watch me run out of fuel in the middle of a huge lava bed...... will do that do though!

On the part of the mini map, I have deduced that while in cave mode, one of the aspects that determines the different shades of the cave is the light level of the cave that it sees: if there is no light, it doesn't do anything. This is why a cave doesn't appear to be there until you 'explore it', i.e. place a few torches.

That would probably mean that those squares that you see are probably due to some form of lava fall, not a 'glitch' that we would be familiar with.
