Check out microblocks, basalt and Marble bricks and chiseled bricks....

Micro blocks can help smooth out the angularity of the turrets.

edit: And the basalt/marble can offer some texture and life to the otherwise dull stone.

I dont have that mod, i play on Beta Pack A.
Oh my...

Try stone bricks, and some nether bricks/fences etc to vary the appearance / highlight key areas. Windows like in nether fortresses bordered in a contrasting material etc.

Some stone slabs will go a long way to making the crenelations on your towers look neater, as well as your walls.

One block of water can moisten up to a 9 x 9 square around it, then you can place a lilly pad on the water so you can walk on it. From there, you can use IC2 crops to breed and plant different colored flowers in gardens. Something to break up the monotonous flat grass in the courtyard. Make it into a garden, maybe a birch tree, some furniture (using stone walls, stone slabs, and stone stairs to make stone benches and tables). Maybe have a water fountain in the middle of the courtyard.

A stone slab is 3x cobblestone along the bottom row of your crafting table. It's basically a half-block of cobblestone.

A Lilly Pad is found in the Swamp biomes. They are green circular plants that grow on the water. You can walk on them, but don't otherwise interfere with there being a water block there.

If you use Bone Meal on regular grassy dirt, you can get all kinds of flowers to sprout up. Might take a while to get enough of the right kind of flowers. Also, beekeeping can produce a copious quantity of flowers to spawn. Alternately, you can use IC2 Crops for Crossbreeding to get them.
