Need recommendation for forum software

So what's a good forum software to use if you want to leave PhP version 3 behind?

I don't like Discourse, but other than that, what is good, and end-user friendly?

I would recommend phpBB or Simple Machines Forum. Both of those are PHP compatible. And ranked positive by search engines.
