I'm using itemducts to move items through different routes. I have a itemduct coming from a oak barrel into an electric furnace. Then from there I want to extract just the charcoal and move it to a separate barrel, however, when I do this it does not remove the charcoal from the electric furnace. I set the pipe to output and removed redstone signal. I installed a pneumatic servo and placed a piece of charcoal, but still no luck. Any help here? :S

IC2 has an ejection upgrade you put in their machines to tell it to output to a certain side. I think once you make it, you right click with it on the side of the machine, which will make it say something like "Ejection Upgrade (up)", or something to that effect, then put it in an upgrade for the IC2 machine.
Welcome to "Yet another reason why JABBA is better then all alternates!", today we see a Factorization Barrel failing to take items in from any side but the top. JABBA barrels work from ANY side, not to mention that this is input and output, even from one pipe!

Now how would you go about putting non liquid goods into one of these? My bet would be through a lid in the top. Logical isn't it?
Just because JABBA gives a damn about realism doesnt mean its "better". It is easier, sure. But not better. Quality wise I would actually agree in the decision of restricting access of the barrel to the top/bottom. Its not realistic that you can just start pushing items through the side of the barrel. And if you make a hole in the side of a barrel you compromise its strength and it falls apart. +1 Factorization in my book.
Barrels tend to be used to hold liquids only, though. What's your point here? Mine is that JABBA is easier to use for countless other things, aren't limited to vanilla woods, and have way more uses. Neither mod "gives a damn" about realism here. Extra Utilities does them better with it's Drums as they only hole fluids, like a barrel is meant to.I'm sorry but thats not fair.

And besides, who cares about "realism" in Minecraft, expect from maybe @Reika, but that's just his MO with his mods.
In modern times perhaps yes. But that's because the only real place we use them any more due to economic reason is in wine and whiskey storage for the flavour(and then only for top end products, most mass produced stuff are stored in stainless steel vats now and added aroma).
But that doesn't mean that they weren't widely used in the past to store a huge variety of items like salted or dried foods, fragile goods or just general cargo that you wanted to keep dry during sea voyages. The barrel was in the past what the shipping container is today. And that is why Factorization added it in the first place.
And I quite like that realistic mods actually are somewhat realistic. Sure I also enjoy magic type mods, but when a mod tries to mimic real life mechanical things, then I like it to be at least a little accurate.
That is my point. JABBA barrels are easier, but it doesn't make it better just because Factorization made a concious choice towards a bit of realisms.
I think realism is overrated when you consider both types of barrels easily store enough blocks to build a structure many magnitudes larger then the barrel it all fit into. Space-wise, both barrels are completely impossible and unrealistic, so at that point does it really matter where stuff gets put into it from?
But I mean ... it's a game where stone and dirt are unaffected by gravity, but sand and gravel are. Realism really isn't the point, or even helpful.
But yeah, at the end of the day, they're both barrels. I suppose you could argue for the greater aesthetic quality of the Factorization barrels, since they can be made of different colored woods?

I find both barrels to have their pros and cons. But at the end of the day, its just another storage place. Personally I like the deep storage unit from MFR to hold my items and the Drums for liquid.
