So for the first time, after a month of using FTB, I am using barrels. I know, right?

But... I need some help

WAB4tj8.png

As you can see, I have several barrels set up, leading from a steve's carts wood farm and a forestry crop farm. But... my wheat doesn't go in. I don't know why. Those are cobblestone pipes at the TOP of the barrels, and the wheat barrel is one of the upgraded ones (with 64k stacks max). What did I do wrong?

Does none of the wheat go in, or only some of them? Pipes choose their next target at random, so some would go into the barrel and some would go further.
I mean, I see almost 70 stacks of wheat in there. Did you place them all manually, or did some hit the barrel from the pipes?

Cobblestone pipes with several possible destinations will send items randomly to either. Thus statistically 50% of wheat will land in the barrel, and the other 50% will continue down the line, not find any more valid destinations, and drop on the ground.

Where does the wheat go? That looks like it should work.

EDIT: Oh yeah, derp. Forgot about that. You could either use diamond pipes or pneumatic tubes.

Looks good to me... You have wheat in there. You put it in by hand? I've heard sometimes you have to reset a barrel by breaking it and placing it again cause they have some glitches, but I've never experienced it myself and rarely heard of it being an issue.[DOUBLEPOST=1360615318][/DOUBLEPOST]

Ah yeah this is it. I didn't think of this at all because I use pneumatic tubes exclusively because they're a lot smarter than buildcraft pipes. Fix is to send all your items to a redpower relay. Then connect the relay with redpower tubes to your barrels.

Yeah, that's what's happening. Is there any way to fix that WITHOUT using Redpower? I don't want to have to use a filter on every barrel. D:

Alright, thanks Python. Expensive, but I've already sunk 5 diamonds into the steve cart system so another 2 wouldn't hurt.

Also, another solution would be to have a nexus that uses the stone and cobbletsone pipes to use only one diamond pipe, but because you get 8 diamond pipes for every 2 diamonds it isn't THAT expensive. I still have 3 left over.

You could also add the mod ABO (Additional Buildcraft Objects). It contains a pipe which will, given the choice between adding to an inventory and continuing further, always choose the inventory first, if it has enough space.

That sounds extremely useful. Why isn't it in the pack to begin with?

Also, I am having some trouble with my steve's carts tree farm. II added a solar generator to it so that it could work autonomously, but it seems it can never last though the night, and the trees grow during the night so by daytime it can no longer get any light. Any solutions?

Easiest fix: "Fix is to send all your items to a redpower relay. Then connect the relay with redpower tubes to your barrels."

Actually creating some diamond pipes would be easier. Replace the cobblestone pipes over each barrel with a diamond pipe then set the down filter to the item to be stored in the barrel. Adding the RP2 stuff for this small a setup is overkill.

Add a coal engine as backup and set the solar one as higher priority.

I guess it depends. For me the diamonds would be too expensive to waste on this. Plus the fact buildcraft pipes are not very reliable, which is why I rarely use them I guess. lol 1 relay and some tubes seems pretty easy.

You don't need to? The tubes'll sort them automatically (the wheat will go only into a valid inventory, and in that setup the only valid one would be the wheat barrel).

Buildcraft pipes are 100% reliable but they don't make decisions for you, you have to make the decisions in the configuration. His setup is very small so either way is fine, he just started with pipes already so might as well keep them. If he'd started with tubes then it'd make sense to work with them. Besides RP2 author is MIA so the mod is on its way to being a dead mod, might as well evaluate options.

Buildcraft pipes will occasionally drop stuff to the ground for no reason. IMO not reliable, but that's a subjective opinion.

Eloraam is MIA? Hmm. RP2 PR6 is a pretty large update, and was released about 2 months ago. Not trying to argue, just stating what I know about RP2.

who knows, it's just wild rumor due to lack of evidence. The FTB team are friends with Elo, would be nice to get an "official" response about what's happening with RedPower2.
