I am using DW's pack, v1.0.3, and I am attempting to create a void world, where the sun doesn't move, and there is no moon, or it is opposite the sun. I'd also settle for a normal day/night cycle if I couldn't achieve that. I'd also prefer a dark sky. Here is what I came up with;

1. Void World
2. Zenith
3. Zero Length
4. Normal Sun
5. Nadir
6. Zero Length
7. Normal moon
8. Normal stars
9. Clear modifiers

Using the above I get a void age, but I have a few problems.

1. I've tried various color combinations, but have been unable to make the dark sky. What I am looking for is basically the end, but with a sun, and no moon.

2. Other things are populating the word, such as tendrils and what not, and I have zero desire for these. I just want a bonafide void age to build my base in that is as stable as possible.

Anyone able to help me make a "perfect" void age for this purpose, with what I am looking for? Spent about 3 hours writing various ages, and it is time to bed.

Thanks in advance for the help ;)

I would think it is impossible to have a sun and also have "night sky". Sounds rather stupid if you think about it for a second as well. But I did find something in the "writing summary" that I found odd: Stars take both Length and Direction modifiers. But I would guess this purely dictates which direction the stars rotates and at what speed, and the presence of a sun always causes it to become daytime sky. Really don't think you can avoid that. I think your only alternative is to use a moon as substitute and the Bright Lighting page(to light up your creations, does not prevent mob spawns but that is what magnum torches is for).

2:
Depending on mystcraft versions it can be very very difficult if not impossible to create a void age that is completely empty. Reason is that the world generator will randomly choose a number of populators(depending on version) for each category if none/too few were chosen from said category. So you might have to try and experiment with choosing pages from each category that cannot actually spawn in a void age. Like maybe Deep Lakes from Populators, Ravines from Terrain alterations etc.

Not looking for it to be night perse, just a black, as opposed to a normal sky. I'll go back to tinkering with it more, as I wait for others to reply!

To get rid of those, while keeping most of your sanity, I would recommend using NBTExplorer (given you have access to server files) to directly manipulate the age book NBT data.

Mystcraft itself has inserted a ton of extra symbols in your age book. If you remove them (from the NBT data of the age book) and only keep the symbols you actually wrote, delete the age and then re-enter, all unwanted features will be gone.

How do I do this? Sounds complicated. I do have access to my server's files, I just don't know what file I need to grab, or what I need to edit!

IMPORTANT: Make a backup of all files you edit!

I think the easiest way is to make sure your character has the age book in it's inventory, put all other carried items in chests and quit the game. You then use NBTExplorer to open the level.dat file located under the world name in sub-folder "/saves". This is if you are playing single player locally. In the case of a dedicated server, it's a file called "xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx.dat" under "/<world name>/playerdata/" on the server. I'm not sure how you determine which one belongs to you, they used to be called by player name. It *should* be reasonably small if you have removed all items except the book from the character's inventory (I have not verified this).

When you open the .dat file in NBTExplorer, go to Data/Player/Inventory. Note that Data and Player only exist if it's a level.dat file, in separate character files, Inventory is at root level. There you should find the data for the age book.

I don't remember the exact structure within the age book, but you should find a long list with symbol names. The ones you wrote will be there but a bunch of others as well, such as various colors etc. Delete everything you don't want from that list. There may also be a flag somewhere in the book NBT called "is_generated" or similar, try setting this to false.

Then save the file and overwrite on the server - after making sure you have a copy of the original somewhere else. You will also need to delete the dimension's folder named "DIM_MYST<number>" (unless it recently changed). Make a backup of those you delete. Then start up the server/game and use the age book.
