if you go caving manually, having caves would yield you more ore, but if you're planning on mining automatically, I'd suggest doing no caves, as with caves mobs could spawn and get in your way of automatically mining

What version are you playing?
Mystcraft 0.10.06 (for Minecraft 1.6.2) added a lot of "Natural xyz Color" pages, "Standard Biomes" is now also available outside of creative mode and then of course you've got the existing pages for caves, ravines, villages etc. This should make it pretty easy to generate an exact Overworld clone.

I'm in 1.5.2 unleashed so I am stuck with mystcraft 0.10.5 or whatever it is that he hasn't perfected the random symbol adding yet so it's not completely finished and fixed. I had a question, what symbols would I need to make it eternal night and in what order?

Zero Length, Nadir, Normal Sun (Nadir is the opposite of Zenith)
Or try Dark Sun, never used it but it should work also.
For 1.5.2, you could try to spam symbols if you want a quarry age.
Stone Block, Tendrils, Stone Block, Tendrils should get rid of caves. Then a couple of other symbols, to cut down the amount of random stuff. (Huge Trees, Surface Lakes, Obelisks, Villages, other surface features that doesn't get in the way of getting solid underground.)
I'd rather just NBT edit out the random symbols it adds in, in excess that is. Purposefully added symbols stay (even the ones it randomly adds that it SHOULD, however if theres like 6 blue in a row those are getting trashed.) I just wish it didn't have to be like this in 10.5
Why not go up to the roof of the nether, run a while (mps, and others, make this pretty fast), make another portal, be 10k blocks away and don't worry about the world? :'D
As the overworld only goes to 30 million this technically is not renewable and I most likely would do enough quarrying to make it matter :S. I run a quarry whenever the next one is done.
Unless you run unhinged with everything on super hard, what would you need the stuff from 50 quarries for? ._.
Why is not the reason dude. Minecraft is all about building the most complex mekanism and use it for the stupidest reasons.
