So I had a lava pump set up in the nether, and I'd use linking books to get there and home. Last night I was getting some lava cells and setting up an ender chest transfer system and all of a sudden as I was returning to the nether everything as far as I can see in every direction is just bedrock.

I cant even get home because my linking book is gone.

Does any one know how this happened and if I can I fix it?

There's quite a few ways.

The easiest would be killing yourself by starving.

Then you could make a new level with the same seed, just in creative. Swap the... errr. it was leve.dat I think? Use OP commands to /tp x y z or /tpx 0. Swap the dats again

Download McEdit, move your position in it.

I'm sure there's other ways as well.

IMO this could be a very good thing. Building a base on top of the Nether Bedrock basically ensures that you have a flat world with indesctructible floor that doesn't spawn mobs to boot.

If you don't have the means to escape (nether portal, linking book, etc.) and need to get back up there after dying to retrieve your stuff, you can do it by digging all the way to the top of the nether to a spot where bedrock is only one block thick (count out 5 blocks from lowest to highest bedrock to find a good spot), placing a ladder next to it and a block below that so that there's a 1-high space, and throwing an ender pearl against the ladder. Your head ends up inside the bedrock block at the top, and you can just press forward to climb the ladder and get on top.

Now.. that is an interesting glitch..

Not sure I'd call it a glitch, but more a side effect of a few intentional behaviors: Ender pearls prefer to put your feet on top of a solid block instead of inside it; you can move around while suffocating; and bedrock is only one block thick in places. Pretty handy if you want to get up top though - in vanilla, it gives you an ideal place to build a zombie pigman grinder, since there are no spawning spaces other than the ones you create yourself by placing blocks. In FTB, you'd probably just use a soul shard for that, so it's more a peaceful flat place to build, do nether beekeeping, etc.

Edit: Ooh, and a place to fight withers without tearing up the terrain! Almost forgot that one.

It's only going to be the ideal place for a zombie pigmen grinder if you manage to reach the top of the Nether Bedrock above a lava lake that's pretty huge, since the game checks valid spawning space in both X/Z and Y axis. If you managed to do it this way, then it's pretty good, at least it means you don't have to go all spiderman and avoid lava while building your grinder, lol.

In any case, if you're going for a Nether mob grinder, you're better off building it speccing for Wither Skeletons to spawn, since they're the mob with the rarest drop, and every other Nether Mob minus Ghasts & Magma Cubes can spawn in the same place as Wither Skeletons, so you'll still get plenty of Blaze Rods & Gold Ingots/Nuggets. Building a farm just for Pigmen/Magma Cubes seems like a whole lot of wasted effort to me. Seriously. Magma Cubes aren't even that valuable, few recipes use them... Especially in Vanilla, where you're going to be building such traps, because in FTB why not just use Soul Shards or MFR Spawners?
