Ok, so I got a little bored of starting my worlds in a hole, with no room to place my machines, and not enough resources to build my home. I can't stand the job of moving all my stuff from one base to another, so I decided to build myself a shell to start out in, no machines, or anything that would give me an advantage, just something pretty to live in. I wanted to build myself a mountain fortress, so I donned a MPS, opened up the NEI menu, and picked my building materials, primarily blackstone and abyssal stone.

(can't upload images for some reason, so here's an Imgur link) http://imgur.com/a/lp4q8

Does anyone have any thoughts as to what more I could add? I'm not too thrilled about the idea of adding loads of microblocks, because my game has a tendency to crash randomly when I place them. But anything else is on the table.

If you done some Thaumcraft, you can use warded stone blocks as your entrance since only the placer will be able to go past the blocks.

I think you are talking about the glass made with unstable ingots, which only lets players through, though I do like that idea. Might have to wait a while though, as that probably violates my rule of 'nothing functional' used in the build.

@Ferg - I'm probably going to have a separate building for magic, connected to the main fort with a big bridge over the chasm, so I'll work on that when I decide to start doing magic stuff. Might use the molten ender for the power room/basement though, in the same way I used redstone for the main entrance and processing area. Following that, I could use glowstone under glass covers for the upper floor/bedroom...

No, Warded Stone is added by Thaumcraft, and only the player that placed it can break it, aside from Creative mode. It also adds Warded Glass, which is the same but see through. Thaumic Tinkerer adds Phantom Stone Blocks which only exist for other players and mobs. The player who placed them walks through like they aren't there.

Though if you're going to take Nothing Functional to heart, the walls, floor and ceiling serve functions and are thus outside the rules. ;)

They're awesome. Can't see through, but you can walk through. Annoyingly if you're playing in offline mode, IE logged in with your e-mail, you can't get through them. I had to mine around the entrance of one of my bases when that happened to me.

hmm, that's kinda strange, makes sense if it's checking your player id though. Might have to work on my magic room sooner than I thought then
